I'm hearing so many interesting things from people in the know. The Avengers changed everything.

Re: Matthew Vaughn out of X-Men: First Class 2; Bryan Singer
So we're going to get a copy of The Avengers now, I guess. That's what usually happens when a film does amazingly well. After Avatar, every film was in 3D, 99% were shit. After HP1 and LOTR1, all films were trying to recreate the book franchise movie and fantasy movies were being made left-right-and centre, again 99% were shit. The Hangover did well, so we got Bridesmaids, Due Date etc etc. The Expendbales did well, so we get "The Expendabelles". It never ends. Just copy and copy and copy. Where is the originality?
Hollywood needs to just fuck off. I suppose, at least, other countries are much more original.

If Shape's comment suggests lots of familiar faces will be in this film (such as Jackman and McKellen), then this is no surprise. It fits in perfectly with the Days of Future Past storyline, which is from long before the Avengers movie.

It's not so much a copy of The Avengers, but yeah, that film's success changed First Class 2 into Days of Future Past.
Also? Vaughn didn't quit, he was fired in favor of Singer. His producer role is honorary only. He's completely off the film.

Were they not pleased with Vaughn? Or did he just rebel against their timeline for the sequel?

Singer directed the best superhero movie ever. He's fine in my book.

David wrote: Were they not pleased with Vaughn? Or did he just rebel against their timeline for the sequel? It's complicated. Vaughn was developing First Class 2 with Kinberg. Then The Avengers hit and suddenly Fox wanted big -- they wanted both casts. Singer came on in a large capacity at that point. Vaughn found out and was pissed. Eventually got to the point of "It's him or me." Fox called his bluff, fired Vaughn, and brought in Singer to direct.

Shame about Vaughn. But now, if First Class 2 fails (critically or financially), this change of directors will be used as the reason. It'll be all "well, the movie felt undecided - it was half Vaughn and half Singer" and all that bollocks.

TBH Vaughn > Singer.
Singer is an overrated hack. Fox made a boo-boo. Of course from their POV, Singer gave them 3 XMs and shit-tonnes of money with great reviews so, it's a clear choice. But, in reality, XMs under Singer have been superficial, poor, cheesy etc.
Already didn't like XMFC with Singer's meddling, am out for this sequel. Hope Jack the Giant Slayer tanks in the meantime.

Stardust is awesome though.
Still I prefer X1 and X2 to First Class as well.

X2 is sort of the definition of a film that doesn't hold up over time.

Stewart and Mckellan will be reprising their roles as Xavier and Magneto. I think that is very cool and glad to see them back. It will be great to see them play those characters again. http://www.superherohype.com/news/artic ... uture-past

Re: Matthew Vaughn out of X-Men: First Class 2; Bryan Singer
That's awesome, you know Jackman will be back. Even if they made a live action version of the cartoon (The Rock as Bishop maybe) This could be the coolest film in the series. Maybe a real shot at Gambit too.
I just watched the original trilogy again, all of them hold up extremely well. 2 is still my favorite but you forget how simple yet awesome the first is. The third is by no means a disaster, I stand by that its very entertaining, has some great sub stories, and some great issues, Ratner just can't give the scope of that film the justice it deserved, so it can't get higher than a B+ from me.

Agree about all three. X2 is best but the first is fantastic too. X3 gets more hate than it deserves. Yes it should have been better but its still decent and good in parts.

Agreed with both of you. X2: X-Men United is the best by far. Then X-Men, then X-Men: The Last Stand, which isn't bad of a movie by any means, it just had a hard time living up to the brilliance that is X2.

Indeed. X2 is a hard act to follow. Still is one of the best superhero films ever made.

In terms of superhero movies, it is the best. However, when you throw in all comicbook movies, then it moves down to #2 behind Sin City. But both are absolutely fantastic.

The Dark Shape wrote: X2 is sort of the definition of a film that doesn't hold up over time. I agree. There are some very good set pieces (Raid on the Mansion), but overall I was very disappointed with all 3 of the movies when I saw them at time of release and recently when I watched all of them. However, I did not dislike them enough to not watch this movie when it comes out... I used 3 negatives that was pretty impressive and pointless.
