 Re: Cars 2 reviews
Yeah, this is disappointing. I had hoped Pixar would beat the odds and get stellar reviews for this sequel. It's just such a contrast after Toy Story 3 was, like, perfection just a year ago. Oh well. Here's hoping for Brave.

 Re: Cars 2 reviews
That's coz Toy Story 1/2 were great and they really put their hearts and souls into TS3 to send them off.
Lee Unkrich after all had been with the series since the beginning.
Cars 2 had no such person involved until Lasseter ran back late on. Also, none of the original Cars characters except Mater gets anything much to do, so, yeah it's not really a sequel as it is a spin-off.

 Re: Cars 2 reviews
It's because Pixar really had no interest in making Cars 2. It's made purely because of the mandate from Disney for monetary reasons. I'm disappointed it doesn't defy the expectations, but if Pixar is going to lay an egg, it might as well be the one they and the general public care the least about.

 Re: Cars 2 reviews
I don't think that a mandate from Disney means you have to put out a crappy film or you don't care. Toy Story 2 was a mandate from Disney and it turned out great.
I blame Lasseter for this, really. When the first Cars came out, he was so excited because he had always loved Nascar and toy cars as a kid. His enthusiasm overcame his usual oversight with story. And then with Cars 2, he didn't have Lee to say no to him. Having complete control over a project is never good. Everyone needs editors.
No Oscar for Pixar this year!

It's at 40% now. This is approaching Pirates 4 levels.
This is not only a huge miss on Pixar's part, it's gonna be one of the worst-reviewed blockbusters of the year.

Disappointing. Not entirely unexpected. But most reviews have said "Kids will love it"... so...

 Re: Cars 2 reviews
The top critics are actually more kind of it, as both Variety and THR gave it positive reviews. The online reviewers who didn't think too much of the first one are dragging this one down big time though.
