Another possible director would be Alfonso Cuarón who directed Harry Potter 3. I don't know if he's old-school, but the critics said that Cuarón darkened and matured HP with good acting and a tight script. And it was pretty subtle, certainly not hot-shot. I think X-men could use that style.
BTW, I think James Marsden has ZERO stage presence, and doesn't belong on the big screen.

This movie is going to suck!! They no longer have James Marsden, Famke Janessen, Halley Berry, or Bryan Singer. Cancel the sequel or push it back to Summer 2007 and beg them to come back. There will probably be more dropouts. Hugh Jackman is also rumored to be James Bond.

STORY I am not surprised, the last film was going in the direction fo the dark Phoenix, the lose of cyclops dosen't really bother me, as long as Famke is back.
