l'm still trying to kinda gather thoughts on Mysterious Object at Noon, but needless to say, it was very hit-and-miss...often wonderful, often horrible. So, yeah.

15. 1/29/2005: The Terminal -- 8.0/10 (A-)
Little Shop of Horrors -- very cheesy film that unfortunately wasn't cheesy enough to be truly funny. Some of the parts were laugh-out-loud but many were also groan-inducingly long. The pacing was off, but this was only a B-grade horror film, so what would be expected?
The Terminal -- one of the best of 2004. Excellent performances by both Hanks and Zeta-Jones, although the ending was a little dissapointing.

33. Color Of Night - Awful, just awful.
34. My Boss's Daughter - Likewise.
35. Mean Creek - Ahhh now here's a great little flick. Expertly told story of 5 kids who take the local bully out so he gets his just deserts (he was just supposed to run home naked) and instead events spin wildly out of control and ends in the death of the bully.
But the fascinating thing about Mean Creek is its emotional aftermath and the havoc with which it plays with their minds.
The immediate aftermath of the event has a five minute dialogless, emotional scene where the kids take in what has just happened.
The greatest touch though is the bully himself. Once out on the road heading towards the river, we learn that there is probably a lot of sadness and secret pain in him, but when it comes to what happens to him, even HE is not blameless in Jacob exacerbating the problem. One can argue, that he is indeed the MOST responsible one for his own death.
There is a little overacting by the kids before the death but afterwards its pretty smooth sailing. The film didn't also need the small armed robbery subplot either but eh... A great way to end my month of January.

Heh, Color of Night.
That has got to be up there with the worst movies I've seen. That sex scene is ridiculous.

I think it's harder trying to find a scene that wasn't ridiculous

* The Clearing -- The only reason why I am giving the movie a somewhat positive grade is because of the acting. That's really all the movie has going for it. The ending is somewhat bold, but that's easy for me to say since I didn't pay to see the movie. If I had payed to see it, I think I would've been kind of annoyed.
* Predator -- A very good action film that is somewhat overrated. The action is a lot of fun, but one thing bothered me. The music. The movie was composed by Alan Silvestri, the same man who composed Back to the Future. For some odd reason, the two scores seemed too much alike. I got to the point where I became distracted by it. I'm not saying it's a bad score, it just sounds too similar. The film however itself is great, so I am still deciding on the grade. An A- sounds good right now.

18. 2/1/2005: Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid -- 4.6/10 (C)
The Day After Tomorrow -- was much more entertaining the second time. The gaping plot holes didn't stand out as bad and while the acting was bad, it was tolerable. The special effects were quite good, but that is the only thing that truly stands out in the film, as otherwise it is merely mediocre.
Hide and Seek -- excellent performances by DeNiro and Fanning elevated this film from mediocre to quite good. While the twist was contrived and not nearly as good as expected, the film was still suspenseful. The final conclusion however was entirely too long, and once the twist had been revealed, there was little left in the film to sustain it.
Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid -- there are many ways to describe bad. But perhaps the best is to simply reference Anacondas, or its predecessor, Anaconda. Both were bad, even on a B-grade scale. The plot holes were far to numerous to list, and the acting was just bad. One of the most un-needed sequels of 2004 and one of the worst creature features of recent memory.

Great visuals, so-so music (the sole exception being Masquerade). With this cast, I can't help but think I would be giving a higher grade had they sung in the nude.

Million Dollar Baby -- easily one of the best films ever made, and the best of 2004. A stunning achievment in film. The acting is flawless, the direction incredible and the lasting impact is strong. Makes it into my Top 5 of all time.
Alone in the Dark -- there is a certain level when a film stops being bad and becomes funny. Unfortunately Alone in the Dark transcends that line and becomes painful to watch. One of the worst films ever made.

Very average movie. I thought it would be funny, considering that Bernie Mac is usually a laugh-a-minute kinda guy for me. This movie did not have me laughing, even at laugh-an-hour. It could have been better, but I wasn't expected a whole lot. It also could have been worse. It's miles better than The Cookout and My Babby's Daddy, that's for sure.

It's a great film, but it's not a "Best Picture" winner, in my opinion. It's the best biopic, but that's not saying much, since I haven't seen very many. The story was good (of course), and the execution was even better. I enjoyed the first half more than the second, but the whole movie was great. Very sad at times, very fun at times. It had a bit of everything. Though the movie isn't "Best Picture" material, Jamie Foxx's performance was. I'd say the best performance in 2004, hands down. And, I know who I will be nominating for Best Actor for the KJMA's.
B+
Also, I'm going to watch it again, because the middle of the movie kept skippin'. Damn Blockbuster Online. ](*,)

so l finally got around to watching something, and it ended up being this little gem. fantastic film that retells a different version of Napoleon's last days. ian Holm gives two outstanding performances as Napoleon and Eugene, the commoner Napoleon switches places with, in order to escape and hopefully regain his throne. highly enjoyable

Hmmm Vanity Fair or The Grudge.
You should make a new topic for February.
This January 8 to February 8 business sucks. Just bite the bullet and make it the first to the first.
