Beyond The Sea - B+
Kevin Spacey directs, acts, sings, and dances as Bobby Darin......and does all of them quite well. Kate Bosworth actually holds her own with Spacey. She could actually turn into a good actress.

Watched Pi for the first time last night.
Didn't like it. Thought it was a bit annoying and pretentious.

Crazy Stone - A
The current sensation in China. Produced for only $400K and released only locally at the beginning, the craziness has reached a feverish level across the country. Saw it earlier last week, and it's well worth the reputation. Not the first Chinese black comedy, but the best one to date. It had me laughing out loud all the way through, and upon multiple viewings, one would catch more subtleties that could be easily missed the first time. It reflected and took jab at current social situations in China, and the local dialects added to the flavor. Not sure if it will translate well to English, but a can't-miss film for native speakers.

The Weatherman - A
First, it was directed by Gore Verbinski which was a surprise. Second, I Loved the movie more than I expected too. It kept me unaware of how it was going to play out and usually I don't like it when I have to start wondering how a film will end but this one was just excellent. During the scene when he was pointing the arrow at Russ, I could actually have seen him just letting that arrow go, but of course it didn't happen that way yet one could have seen him actually doing it. Just amazing film.
BTW MAKE THIS THREAD A STICKY PLEASE. . .FOR THE LOVE OF ALL HUMANITY.

I watched The Graduate- and it, a movie I have apparently always underrated in my mind, has shot into my top 25 with a bullet. I have never identified with and understood a character the way I did with Benjamin.
As for why it didn't hit me like this earlier: well, that's what happens when the only time you see a movie is at age 14 on Bravo in Pan & Scan.
I also watched Marathon Man, which was ok, but never really gelled for me until the cathartic last 20 minutes or so. Still, it's always nice to see Roy Scheider. And Olivier was so goddamn menacing.

Yesterday I watched SOMERSAULT and this film has really stayed with me! I went from finding it really solid to being in love with it! Abbie Cornish is fantastic and the soundtrack and cinematography are to die for. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

What about that bit, when the friend's father pulled over. Fuck. I was shaking.

I was on edge too. I thought something else would happen. Thankfully it doesn't seem that it did, and yet what does happen manages to be pretty traumatic in itself. What a jerk!

MINI'S FIRST TIME - 8/10 (A-)
One of my favorite films of the year so far! This was a huge surprise! It's a deliciously devilish black comedy. Extremely fun and funny! Nikki Reed ( THIRTEEN) was great. Highly recommended! It hits DVD Tuesday!

The Devil Wears Prada - Pretty good indeed, thanks mostly to the always brilliant Meryl Streep... (and also to Emily Blunt - I'd actually be glad to see her being nominated too... I've seen actors winning Oscars for much less) the movie as a whole is totally predictable, yes, but it's good fun 7/10
