Spoiler moment:
The big question is: In the show Dallas, Who shot JR?
a)George W Bush since he is from Texas also and a giant oil tycoon
b)Michael Bolton because he wants to help his girlfriend Dynasty's Nicolette Seridan to clean off the night time soap opera rivals
c)WWF's John Bradsaw because he stole his character from JR
d)David Hassellhof because well Germans love his music

I still haven't seen The Usual Suspects.
Needless to say, the ending has been ruined for me so many times, it's not even worth mentioning. Ok, I did mention it, but you get my point.

I think it's fair to reveal a spoiler of a movie from several years ago, like that the police captain turned out to be the top bad guy in LA Confidential.
But revealing one from a recent movie, like that there is a winning lottery ticket at the bottom of the birdcage in Paycheck, would be iffy.

Here is my opinion: To me, being the first to rush out and spoil a movie for other viewers is irrational, immature and silly. If you have enough sense to allow others to enjoy movies then you need to grow up a little bit. On the same thought though, if a movie is 10 years old and you have not seen it, and it has become imbedded in popculture and the ending is spoiled, then its not that big of a deal.
The ending to The Sixth Sense was spoiled for me, but I actually thought I'd never see it so I did not care at the time. The ending to The Village was spoiled for me online the day after its release, which upset me.
I was actually planning on seeing The Crying Game soon, and still will even though the plot twist was just spoiled, which is dissapointing.
I think that spoilers should be prefaced with a warning, that way if you wish to continue reading you have the option. Even in reviews, as sometimes people read reviews to decide whether or not to see a film.
That's just my two cents on the matter.

If someone hasn't, for whatever reason, seen the film within x amount of time, I don't understand what grounds they could have to be upset if they came across information revealing plot points. That said, they can be upset, it's not up to others to judge whether or not it's valid. But I personally have no sympathy. Am I alone in seeing films when they are released theatrically? Films that I am interested in, that is.
Decent movie are all jumbled by release date though. There is ntohign but crap out now, and then this sumemr there will be a ton fo mvvies I want to see, and I did not get see everything I wanted to durign the winter. There are really twog ood movie seasons, spring/earlysummer and winter, the rest of the year is just meh. It is not unreasonable that a person will not get to see every movie they want to in the theater, its expensive, it takes takes time and one of the seasonss (winter) corresponds with finals and the holidays which is rather busy for some people.
I don't think its unreasonable for x time to include the early parts of a DVD release. Some films one can talk about, about and it won't matter. But others like The Sixth Sense, TheCrying Game, The Usual Suspects I think it does matter. With teh Sixth Sense I thik the movie rather dull to wathc once you know the ending, I guesed the endign to the Crying Game and have never been that fond of the movie...and the Usual Suspects is still cool, but it was fun to see the ending.
To suggest that once a iflm is in wide release, jokes about its endign in random threads is ok, to me, is just insane. That basically means if we don't see a movie opening weekend for say a horror film then all interesting stuff will be spoiled.
It reminds me of when EW printed in their obits section a piece on a certian Sopranos characters death from season 5. I normally watch the Sopranos season as it happens, but that was a sesoan I had to catch on DVD, and the ruined it, with no warning whatsoever.
The success of DVD means alot of people watch alot of stuff in the comfort of their home, including movie geeks. If the stand for spoilers is really that soon, then buh bye my subscription to EW and my posting on movie message boards. What is the point of discussing movies and reaidng about them, if it ruins watching some of the for you?

Wow, I thought that was a very safe one. That seems like one of those plot twists that is so talked about now, and parodied by now that everyone knows. Heck, I never saw the movie either, but new about it after I saw Ace Ventura which does a little take on it.

Tony, I really don't "mind" per se, as it is over 10 years old. While yes it would be nice to have not known, it isn't that big of a deal because as you said, some "surprise twists" become embedded into pop culture.
