Went to a sold out showing down here in SAn Diego...
Regal Cinemas 18
Crowd Report
Audience: SOLD OUT.(one of those big theaters) Consisted mostly of teens, college students and the occasional 50 year old+
Time: 4:25
Audience Reaction:
The audience was not impressed. You could tell with the mass amount of off topic whispering and fidgeting you could hear through out the theater when a movie sucks. I saw a couple in the front row sleeping, only to be awaken by the occasional teenage girl scream. The audience seemed bored, but interested when a couple of those "suprising" parts came. An overwhelming "WHAT! THAT SUCKS" came when the "big ending" came. I could tell that they were disappointed by the ending, which is maybe why I think the audience didn't like it.
Personal Reaction:
Sadly, I must say, this film had the PERFECT premise, backed by a PERFECT ad campaign, only to be ruined by a sometimes laughable, unbelievable, on-going, storyline that tries to pull out the stupidest of scares. The ending was horrible and there were no answers to any questions asked through out the whole film. The ending drew together points in the film that made no sense, and failed horribly at trying to make the ending dark but joyful(i.e. The Sixth Sense showing Bruce Willis accepting that he is dead, or In the Ring where Naomi Watts and her son accept that the girl can't be stopped, but are saved). In my opinion, the film is at best, a mediocre thriller, taking a cue from other mediocre thillers like Darkness Falls or Suspect Zero. Also, I think this review is influenced by the lack of interest from the audience. I feel that Micheal Keaton was a horrible mistake on the casting part, he really didn't "bring it", and looked more bored then sympathetic. The movie tries too hard to be too serious.....making the film boring, dull and dumb.
Im sorry, I give this film a D.

I won't say anything about the movie and what I thought just yet. I need to figure out what actually happened first. It's definently one of the more confusing movies I've ever seen...

WHITE NOISE has to be one of the BEST movies I've seen in a long long time.. I went to the 7:00PM show and it was definitely SOLD OUT and it's truly nice to see Michael Keaton back... I enjoyed the effectiveness in the creepy atmosphere it provoked, the factual nature it was based on and the Exorcist style of creepy music the movie played which was fantastic.. The 1 thing that annoyed me the most didn't involve anything with the movie, it was the fucking teens nowadays who feel compelled to act up and talk too goddamn much during a movie and have absolutely NO RESPECT whatsoever for the other movie watchers.. Cell phones went off, kids talking down around the front row and at one point, I got up, went to the front row and told em to shut the fuck up and have a little common courtesy for others which obviously they didn't.. The crowd of kids shot me a dirty look and quite frankly, they should count their collective blessings that they were exactly that: A bunch of dumb teens that were pissed because the movie didn't contain the Cast of the O.C, didn't have Buffy in it or didn't copy one of many Horror movies that are out nowadays and I think that alone was great.. I know I said I predicted 40-45 Million for this movie for the weekend and based on the audience I watched it with and the positive reaction, along with many jolts and creep out scares, I'd be very disappointed if it didn't at least get close to what I predicted... In the event it doesn't, the only thing I can say is it's because the movie does appeal to an older crowd(Thank God) and not all about the fucking teens and that's a good thing I think.. One of the main reasons I don't go to alot of movies anymore is because everytime I go, it looks like a fucking episode of "SAVED BY THE BELL" with fucking teens teens teens everywhere who can't shut the fuck up for shit... In any event, will see how this does this weekend, but on a scale out of 5 stars, I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.. Very good indeed and I think the Internet slacker film critic wannabes missed the mark on this pretty bad and blasted it for there inability to want to believe that this is actually a factual type of story and jot some made up bullshit like the overrated and not scary at all "The Ring" and "The Grudge".. Way to go Michael Keaton... Welcome Back!!!

If you were talking about me....
....I stand 100% behind what I say..sort of.
White Noise had a terrific premise, but they changed something that finally had a "real" feel to it, and made it just as unbelievable as The Ring or The Grudge.
..Please done hurt me...

They weren't talking because they're young whipper snappers (And do you fucking expect them to be walking on sunshine if you walk up to them in the middle of a movie and tell them to shut the fuck up? I know a lot of people that would've kicked your ass for pulling that during the middle of a movie), they were talking because there wasn't anything else to do during the movie. It was just plain awful man. Insultingly bad. Though props to the movie for having one of the funniest deaths ever when SPOILERS: Michael Keaton starts break dancing while the ghosts, who look just like "Bat Boy" from The Weekly World News, start swirling around him in a display only made to remind us how shocking unscary CGI is. Oh yeah, and don't forget the random cuts to static and the suicidal chick having an orgasm in the hospital. Personally, I expect this to open to 17-19 million, and it could fall from first to sixth next weekend (Elektra, Coach Carter, Racing Stripes, In Good Company, and Meet the Fockers will all surely perform better then it's second weekend fall, which could be around 65%).

Yeah?? Well funny how all of them stifled it after I told em to show a little respect toward others which eventually they did despite getting their panties in a wad for me telling em to shut the fuck up cause it's flat out fucking rude and you know it.. As for kicking my ass?? BRING IT.. I'll challenge anyone in that fucking audience to kick my ass and in the process, they better pack a lunch in trying to do so.. I'm sorry the movie didn't grab you and that the Cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" wasn't in it, but that doesn't give teens the right to cut up during a movie and disrespect others who payed to watch a movie.. You want to talk and cutup?? Then either get up and leave the theatre auditorium or leave all together and go elsewhere... I can't imagine I'm the only one who feels that this is just rude for teens to do during a movie.. This Ladies and Gentlemen is WHY I don't go to the movies often at all is exactly because of this..

B, there's a difference between stomping up to people and saying "SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCHES!" and telling them that they're being rude for talking during the movie, and frankly, it sounds like what you did was much closer to the latter. I didn't say that every teenager would automatically run at you as if this was a Jet Li movie, but I think we live in very different areas financially and socially. Man, saying that people don't like the movie because it didn't appeal to teens is both right and wrong: True, anyone between the age of 13-25 will hate it. Problem is, 95% of people between 8-120 will hate it too.

Yeah?? And they'll hate it because there not open minded to the subject and based on every overly harsh, scathing review I've read thus far, I'd say I'm right about that assumption and also, it seems to be more of a contest as to who can pan this movie better than the other in their attempt at being film critic wannabes.. There loss... Reviews in the internet world seem to be more focused on playing follow the leader and seeing who can outplay others reviews in slamming films more than anything.. You really think this movie deserved 1 star Moviedude?? Really?? You think this movie was that Godawful Bad compared to the shit that's out now that warrants this movie a 1 star rating??

Yes BKB, yes I do. There's only a single movie I saw in 2004 that I could honestly say I despised more then White Noise. I could tell you that I loved White Noise and thought it was a classic and didn't completely suck, but I'd be a dirty liar. And y'know, maybe there isn't a huge conspiracy where critics all gather 'round and decide not to like a movie, maybe they just genuinely dislike it

Yeah?? And if you read 95% of the reviews panning it, you'll notice that they'll make a statement about how absurd the premise and thought of EVP's and communicating with the dead are and because of that, they pan the movie.. It's true Moviedude and that really is the reason why this movie is getting dumped on: An inexperience and overly skeptical mind in not wanting to believe something like this that could very well be true, not the actual movie itself..... There loss...

Don't you think that maybe a movie should appeal to everyone, not just those few people who beleive in those crazy conspiracies? And even if I didn't think the movie was completely unrealistic and stupid, it would still have wooden acting, the worst pacing of any movie in years, and in general be shoddily made.

Once again, I'n not Joe Blow Roger Ebert Film Critic Wannabe where I go to a movie and have all the aspects or a criteria of a movie layed out to ensure the movie meets the criteria of the acting, the cinematography, the editing and pacing, etc.. I'm there to enjoy the movie and when I have to sit there and play who, what, where, when, and why with all moves in attempt to make me sound like an expert just to give me a reason to pan a movie, then that's sad and therefore, your having to work too hard to enjoy something when it's supposed to be about escapism and relaxing, not an exercise in doing what I've listed.. I'm easily pleased my friend and don't go to the absolute extremes like this to enjoy a movie.. With that having been said, I'm saying WHITE NOISE was one of the BEST movies I've seen for the start of this new year and it's everyone elses loss..

Wait, so you think that whether or not a movie is exciting or boring, and whether or not the acting is good DOESN'T MATTER? Jesus man, all your favorite movies should be Bad Boys II and xXx!
And y'know, your right. It IS people's loss if they see White Noise

The movies you listed are not Oscar winners obviously, but designed for mindless entertainment and Bad Boys II and XXX are mindless escapism type of movies that aren't meant to be read into so much, so on that note, yeah, they were Ok in what they accomplished in doing..

It is a wonderful concept to be able to speak freely and not be censored, but back on topic, I'm seeing this again tonight at 6:15 and so far, I still say this is one of the BEST films so far to kick off 2005.. God bless Michael Keaton and what a shame he didn't come back to play the part of Bruce Wayne/Batman in BATMAN BEGINS.. I'd probably have more interest in the film if he was in it over Christian Bale which sounded like a fucking sissy in that Batman Begins trailer they showed...

BKB I like you man but you gotta let others have there opinions. Just because someone doesn't like a movie you do doesn't mean you have to jump down their throat. Difference of opinion.

Well now, no matter what people say about the movie it's officially a hit.
With $8.8M on friday, and nearly $4,000 pta.
The movie is going to storm past the $20M mark this weekend!
LEES MOVIE INFO predicted $6,200,000 opening weekend.
THE NUMBERS predicted $6,000,000 opening weekend.
Lets all laugh at those hideous websites.
haha.
