Hopefully all that are making such bold statements that Spielberg is the best, actually have seen enough of Hitchcock to even make the comparision.

Hitchcock.
Oo, this is close.
Rear Window and Vertigo are on my top 100. Love them dearly.

C'mon! Hitchcock easily!
(But why not put him up against some real competition - Spielberg doesn't even deserve to get Hitch's coffee...)

Not sure if I made a mistake but I counted up to your post and I had Hitchcock up by 1.
And now I have it tied at 17.

double checked it and I think it is 17 each > a tie.

Once again, Snrub is wrong.
My vote goes for Hitchcock!!
It's pretty obvious that the people who really know and understand movies are voting for Hitchcock. The amatuer movie goers (like Snrub and Loyal) are picking Spielberg.

My two favorite directors aswell.. I should have like two dozens of films directed by Spielberg/Hitchcock in my top 100...
I still go with Spielberg, since I've only been introduced to Hitchcook in these last few years and I've only seen less than a half of his movies (which are over 50, I think)..
I've seen:
- The 39 Steps
- Rebecca
- Shadow of a Doubt
- Suspicion
- Saboteur
- Spellbound
- Rope
- Dial M for Murder
- Rear Window
- The Man Who Knew Too Much
- Vertigo
- North by Northwest
- Psycho
- The Birds
- Torn Curtain
- Frenzy
- Family Plot
These alone would be enough to vote for Hitch, yes, but Spielberg was the one who changed my childhood with his films..

Spielberg currently with 20 votes.
Hitchcock currently with 19 votes.
Voting will close Thursday night, and a winner will be crowned.
PEACE, Mike.

I loved watching the 'fly on the wall' comments that Hitchcock would use in his tv shows.... Perhaps in the Spielberg vs. Hitchcock debates:
I see Hitchcock waving a light-saber(sic).. Then he says 'my opponent has taken refuge on a distant planet'.. Finally, a raven flys in and lands on his shoulder. (music cuts to Pyscho shreiks).........
As a director Hitch 'toned' the story, to a more important level than the story itself... Spielberg only equalled the story..

A fitting way to end the competition I might say. Pretty cool actually.
Thanks everyone who was involved throughout the whole thing and voted each round.
PEACE, Mike.
