4. Comedian (2002) -- 1/10 B
5. Napoleon Dynamite (2004) -- 1/11 B
6. Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) -- 1/11 C
7. The Terminal (2004) -- 1/12 A+
8. Superman: The Movie (1978) -- 1/13 A+
9. The Villiage (2004) -- 1/13 B-
10. Elektra (2005) -- 1/14 C+
11. Superman II (1980) -- 1/15 A
12. Dr. No (1962) -- 1/16 A+
13. Coach Carter (2005) -- 1/17 A-
Overall, Coach Carter is a very good film, but at a 130 minute running length, it is a little too long. 20 minutes shorter probably would've done the film much better. However, it's still a very good movie. It's Hoosiers lite.

9. 1/16/2005: The Village -- 8.5/10 (A-)
10. 1/17/2005: Meet the Fockers -- 7.6/10 (B+)
Very funny film, but a bit slower then the first film. While its predecessor was a great film, this dwells a bit in mediocrity. However, the laughs are even better, and more common, and the acting is still great, with the addition of Streisand and Hoffman.

An unfortunately bland slasher film that adds little to a cliched genre. While it obviously attempts for a "Scream" like feel, it falls far short. A good premise that has a poor delivery, poor acting and a very unsatisfying conclusion. The final "twist" has the "been there done that feel" and the cliches are too numerous to count.

January is usually the time I partake in older fare, although this year, January seems unusually crammed with almost every single 2004 release I missed. Weird. Anyway, there is always the Criterion Collection to explore once I'm done pillaging the new release section, and tonight I found a good one.
Milos Forman's The Fireman's Ball is an utterly charming movie about a bunch of retired and near retired Czech firefighters who hold an annual ball/social gathering. The entire 72 minute movie plays out in this one location over the course of one night (there is a slight prologe held in a bar during the daytime).
During this time one of the firemen is obsessed with the auction table and the items that continue to disappear over the course of the evening and three firemen are charged with holding an improptu beauty contest, scouring the audience for the Czech beauties, which... well... lets just say are few and far between.
There is some social message here too (for the youngins, what used to be Czechloslavakia was controled by the Communists), it's pretty obvious, and it was banned by the communists. But the movie's charm is that it can still keep one smiling, even though it's primary target is very much like the building at the end of the film.

Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind was one of the best movies of 2004. It contained great performances and a brilliant screenplay. These are both Carrey's and Winslet's finest performances to date.

I liked Secret Window. Sure, it has tons of problems with it, but it was really interesting, and the twist surprised me atleast.

It was my favorite sports movie until I just recently saw Coach Carter, but it's still an excellent movie. Billy Bob Thornton did a great job. The story is so good, and the movie is just so real. Loved it.

It's actually a pretty entertaining movie. Didn't expect too much, but it has a lot of good action, and it's a lot of fun. Above average action flick, in my opinion.

First, let it be known, I've not seen the original so I cannot comment on which version is better. Definately a "check-your-brain-at-the-door" type of film, and there is more style then substance, but nevertheless it is a very fun film to watch. The acting is a bit weak and there are some definate plot holes, however it still is a very enjoyable movie.
7.6/10 (B+)

Much better with a second viewing. Not only is the next alternate ending much better, but the movie is more fun to watch. I enjoyed it a lot.

Well, there isn't anything that is really special with Assault on Precinct 13 in terms of acting or the screenplay, but the film is just a lot of fun to watch, and is very entertaining.

Star Runner is basically every other sports movie ever. It's about a kid, Bond, who is a boxer. He meets and falls in love with his new teacher, blah blah blah. Trains for the upcoming big tournament, against the big super opponent, blah blah blah. Bunch of obsticals, (girl leaves for ex-boy friend, trainer wants to quit, blah blah blah), and everything looks hopeless, he gets knocked down, counted almost out, girl enters arena, he gets up fights, blah blah blah.
So, in plot, it's really nothing special. And the subtitles are absolutely horribly done. (Stuff like: "When one fall down other've to back off." and "l've what l want? You?") Plus there was quite a bit of it that wasnt even in Chinese (or whatever) but was still subtitled. And some of the camera-work was really not great. So, really, l have no idea why l liked it so much. But l did. Very enjoyable, despite it's many flaws and mediocre story. B+
(which is *** ½, btw...l've switched to the 4 star grading scale, for a couple reasons. It can be more vague, and therefore easier to grade on, plus it makes me look like a harsher grader...l always feel like l'm way too easy on the A-F; C's and C-'s look much better than * ½ or **, imo. )

I should have learned my lesson from My Baby's Daddy. This movie has absolutely no plot, not comedy, nothing. It's just filled with unfunny, raciest jokes. There's nothing redeeming about the movie at all.
