In terms of box office, it is good that they have studio involvement. All of the DC universe must look and feel as part of the same cloth (just like MCU does), so if McClaren was trying to be too creative or avante-garde, the studio has to step in. Anyway, that's just one possibility. Anything could have happened.

Anyone following the Joss Whedon stuff? Apparently he quit Twitter due to high levels of criticism and trolling from followers.

I'm a Joss fan, but his high horse opinions on Jurassic World's trailer were kind of unfair. I think he may have an inflated opinion of himself due to years of good will from fans of Buffy, Angel and Firefly, but I'm disappointed in him lately. He's pretty much criticizing the studio for any criticisms fans have of Ultron, which is probably true, but why say it? Because of his otherwise-pristine resumé?

I should point out I have not seen either Avengers movie (stop it), though I'm certain they are capably-made, enjoyable flicks.

I could imagine he is just so burnt out over all of this. I loved Age of Ultron but he should have passed it along to someone else to save his sanity.

Fuck Whedon. Seriously, why is his head so big? He made one film that did well at the box office but it was shit. Nobody even knows who the fuck he is apart from film fans. He's acting like a little baby. Quitting Twitter because of some negative reviews? LOL

I think years of being a darling of audiences and critics alike in a very different medium of television left Whedon incapable of transitioning to film, at least not in the way he expected it to be. Running your own show is a lot different from basically anchoring the biggest sub-franchise of the biggest "cinematic universe" currently. And while I think anyone would be foolish to not trust him more than most when it comes to what pleases an audience, he has to know that if you're making Avengers 2, you're getting major input from the studio, whether it works or what it's shit. No one with a potential billion dollar movie on the line is going to leave it all in one man's hands.

I mean, I still get it from his point of view, I'm not vilifying the man. It's easy to see why there are so many stories every year about name directors leaving movies due to "creative differences". The perfect quote from Harry Shearer comes to mind: "I was creative, they were different."

The Marvel directors are all egotistical. James Gunn is poster boy.
