Don't know If I'll switch as I have at least 3 other theater chains closer to where I live than an AMC. But this is a great deal by including all formats in the pricing and discounts on concessions.

I saw this too. This is a great deal if the details I read were correct. Three movies EACH Week Dolby/Imax included. Seems like a winner to me. Only annoying thing for me is the only AMC with Dolby Imax is 15-20 minutes away from me. A location with recliners is closer but I'm not a fan of recliners. I'd certainly consider switching from moviepass...maybe. I use Moviepass at Regal and Cinemark which is 5 minutes away. Plus a new Regal Warren style theatre that will be 7 minutes out.

Seems awesome. I wish I had AMC theaters near me (closest is an hour away). Cinemark’s current plan is a joke.

MoviePass is so fucked financially, but they’ve served a valuable service in showing the chains what consumers want.

The AMCs in my area are located at or inside a mall.

Same in my area either Malls or City Center areas. While Dine-In chains have gobbled up all the suburbs were I live. I Have a Flix Brewhouse, Studio Movie Grill, and an Alamo Drafthouse within 10 minutes of the house. While the closest AMC is 30 min away in one of the busiest malls in the area.

I have two AMC theaters within 15 minutes of me. And two Harkins theaters within 15 minutes of me.

There are only five AMC theaters in Connecticut. Most are in the northwestern corner a good hour + from me. I haven’t even heard of a few of the towns they’re in.

My part of the state (NYC and New Haven suburbs) is Bow Tie and Cinemark territory. Back in the day Showcase Cinemas dominated the state.

The only cinema I've been to in the United States is an AMC, and I thought it was decent.

The closest AMC to me is about 45 minutes away so I’m not switching over. I also wouldn’t switch over if Moviepass remained as is, but apparently they’re slowly rolling out new options, like paying a small fee to see a movie in a premium format/3D, and bringing a friend. The only change I don’t like is that you might have to pay a small surcharge if you’re seeing a movie during “peak hours”. That’s too vague. Is any showtime during the weekend consider a “peak hour”?

Just signed up. I have MoviePass until December buti figurrd why not since I feel like i got my money's worth with MoviePass already and 2 Dolby screenings a month already makes this worth the price. Already made a reservstion for Ant-Man, love you could book tickets in adcance.

MoviePass is by far still the better deal for me. No brained. Nice try but I love me some MP. :-)

-I can see a movie everyday for $10 a month
-Rarely do I do repeat viewings so that’s not an issue
-IMAX and 3D aren’t must-have for all but a few movies a year. Besides I’ll just pay the surcharge in that case.
-There are so many theaters in my area that advance reservations are usually not necessary
-Speaking of so many theaters, I’m not limited to one chain. More viewings has led to more Regal Crown Club/Stub Hubb points accrual and free popcorn and stuff.


In other corners of the internet there is backlash against MP for some reason due to the financial model I guess?... So what! Take advantage of it while you can.

I haven’t had any issues with surge pricing yet, though I’ve used the pass only once in July so far. However, my cousin in New York says its an extra $5-6 anytime anywhere. Its still worth it if you see a lot of movies, but the big cities definitely got the rotten end of this change.

Edit* I jinxed myself. $6 fees for Fallout all over the place tonight. Fackkkk.

Edit 2* Seems like every showing of every movie released in July is at peak pricing on a Thursday. So MoviePass has turned into a middle man that gives a 40-50% discount.

If I had not fallen sick the past 2 weeks I would have seen some films with AMC A. I still have MP for the moment. Waiting for them to cancel their service but no way I'm paying surge anything.

Yeah, peak pricing has no rhyme or reason at this point. Two weeks ago they threw it out there and every movie had peak pricing. Last week they gradually rolled it out throughout the day (at least on Friday). I was able to see The Equalizer 2 at 1pm without getting a charge. This week their back to where it was two weeks ago, probably to avoid having people do what I did, or buy their tickets early in the day for a later showing when it hasn’t been tagged yet.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens next week now that Fallout is out and is really the last “big” movie of the summer.

Luckily there are at least 20 e-ticketing theaters in my area that are compatible with MP, so I haven't had to deal with surge pricing yet. Looks like MP is in the end game now, I give it another 2 weeks before they shut down completely.

Two weeks might have been a very generous prediction. They apparently “temporarily” ran out of money last night. The “problem” still hasn’t been fixed this morning.

We all knew it was too good to last. I got 34 films out of it in 10 months, only 6 of which I probably would have skipped in theaters if not for moviepass. So it saved me somewhere between $150-200. Not too shabby. Thanks for the memories Moviepass.

Yeah, I figured last night that in the seven months I’ve had Moviepass I’ve seen 37 movies. I’ve seen the overwhelming majority at one theater and the ticket price is $10.65 for the afternoon when I usually go. That’s $394 plus or minus a few dollars here and there for the few films I haven’t seen at this one theater. Seven months of Moviepass equals just about $70. So I’ve saved $324 on the whole and saw a few films in theaters I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

The only question I have is why did Moviepass think this model would ever work. The old one at the higher price makes with fewer subscribers? Sure. But where did they think the new money under the new model was going to come from? Maybe they thought Gotti was going to be a smash hit?

Unless Moviepass gets a bailout, it’s either join Sinemia and pay $100 upfront (or wait since maybe they’ll have a deal to lure MoviePass subscribers), or wait and see if Regal comes out with something similar to A-List. Or hope that AMC starts building in my area. Or go on Tuesday.

I go to an AMC most of the time, but it is only a six screener. So while they get a lot of movies I see, you never know with the indies or horror or even comedy.

Jmart, I bet they thought the customer data would be a lot more valuable. Or that people would get so used to it they wouldn’t object to a price raise ala Netflix. And if they had just raised to $15 a month that would have been fine. Frequent moviegoers still get the benefit while moviepass gets to profit from people only going once a month. I guess an extra $2-3 a month wouldn’t be enough to stop the bleeding though.
