Great choice!

Josh Hutcherson is fine.

Jaime Bell is acceptable.

I still prefer Logan Lerman in the potential role though.

He won't be so unknown after starring roles in Never Let Me Go and The Social Network. Tobey Maguire had, for the most part, only done "prestige pictures" (The Ice Storm, Pleasantville, The Cider House Rules, Wonder Boys) when he was cast. Garfield seems to be at, more or less, the same place Maguire was when he was cast. Maybe a bit lower profile, but not much.

IMO, it's a terrific choice. He was GREAT in the indie film Boy A.

One comment, though: wasn't this movie going to return to the the high school years? Has this conceit been dropped, or was it just a rumor? Garfield, 26 now, will be pushing 30 by the time this movie comes out.

Tobey Maguire had 100 times more recognizability than Garfield who I had to look up to see who he was and I still have no idea. And I can't think of him as Parker because he doesn't really look like the part on any of the pictures I've seen on Google.

I really don't care about this movie, so I'm not bothered by any choice, but I definitely wouldn't pick him if I was going at it.

They had a chance to go with someone more recognizable since this picture will be a reboot but the select a non teen to play a teen? Wonderful.

This could be M. N. Shyamalan's next project.

They don't need a recognizable actor, they need the right actor.

I don't think an unknown will hurt the project any. I suspect they will pick bigger actors for other parts. It also sounds like Norman Osborn is going to be in the film, but will be a kingpin type character. Rumor has it that the Lizard will be the villain, so they will go with known actors for Conners and Osborn.

I'm not feeling it. Course, I wasn't feeling Jaden as the new KK either and that turned around in the end.

They should have named the film 'The Kool Karate Kid'.

He is a great actor, but I am not sure he will work in the high school setting.

Maybe if they have changed plans and decided to make him college student then it works. Also, it seems they are going with cool Peter Parker route not the nerdy Peter Parker.

He clearly looks much older than a high schooler which is what there aiming for here and not near as nerdish looking as Mcguire portrayed Peter Parker as.. This reboot just doesn't make sense. I dont even think it matters who is cast as Parker at this stage. This is looking like a colossal failure.

I dunno why people are so quick to write off a movie, i mean, it could be great, who knows?

At least wait for a trailer before predicting doom and gloom.

Why does Ultimate Spider-Man suck? Maybe it won't follow Ultimate Spider-Man.

Whether it needs a reboot or not is irrelevant, it could be a great movie. We don't know yet.

That can be said for pretty much all movies.
