I Look Forward To Superman Returns More Than Batman Begins
Batman is a bit of a tired series. The franchise was bastardized not too long ago. The same thing happened with Superman, but the wounds have healed from the travesties that were Superman 3 and 4.
The more I see the new Batman trailer, the more I see another "attempt". This is the first directing job for Nolan of this magnitude. Joel Schumacher could make smaller pictures too, but couldn't handle something as broad as Batman, and one has to wonder if history will repeat itself. The cast is a big cast, but once more, this philosophy of using well known actors has blown up in the franchise's face, as it's been more distracting than anything else. Marvel got it right when they decided to use a lot of unknown faces in their movies, but Batman Begins has several household faces in it's cast, and again, one has to wonder if history will repeat itself. My anticipation for this is really no higher than it would be for a blockbuster type movie that I've never heard of until 6 months before it's release. David Goyer is the writer, and he has much experience, as his screenplay writing is almost exclusive to comic book heroes, but I wouldn't exactly call him a writer who has distinguished himself.
On the other hand, Superman seems to be doing things the Marvel way. First, they have Bryan Singer, who has proven he can handle the directing reigns on any type of movie, and has excelled in this particular genre. He also brings along his writing team of Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris , who hit it out of the park with X-Men 2. The cast is mostly people that aren't very familiar, with the exception of Kevin Spacey. The story picks up 6 years after the events of Superman 2, as Superman left Metropolis after his battle with the 3 Kryptonian villians, and unlike a movie like Batman, a movie like Superman will be made for incredible special FX, because of the power of the character. It appears to be a much less tired, and much more interesting project, with a better director, and better writers, and I say this as somebody who always liked Batman better.
DC and WB better make the best of it, because that's all they have in their pitiful stable of characters that anybody cares about, and even so, Marvel characters are just superior in every way. \:D/

First off while I trust Bryan Singer, he sure misfired on his casting. Like BKB said, the cast they have is way too young since its supposed to take place after Superman 2. The worst casting was probably Lois Lane since they hired an actress that looks like she barely started college and an actor I have never heard of. I may be alone in this opinion but Jim Caviziel would of been better suited since he would be approxiametly Chris Reeves age when Superman 3 was made. Also I admire alot of Kevin Spacey's work but his Lex Luthor would come off looking like his cameo as Dr Evil in Austin Powers 3. Im sure it will probably make 200 million dollars but its not on my most anticipated list

I'm not surprised by your anticipation for Superman Mav. And its quite understandable. Superman HAD the superior movies, has had more time for wounds to heal and well, it IS a "super" hero movie. I may be one of the few who actually thinks Spacey' casting as Luthor is great and so is Brandon Routh. After Reeves, I would only accept someone who is an unknown and hes a pretty Reeves looking unknown in my opinion.
Bryan Singer is a good choice too. But theres nothing more that can be said. A script exists but we all know how much trouble Superman Returns' script has gone through. Lets wait for the shooting to start. More than anything, I wish for the Superman script to get leaked like Batmans. From everything I've read, it seems really really complicated.
Oh, to add to your anticipation Mav, the original theme for the Superman series will be in this upcoming movie.

I'd rather see Batman than Superman, there is no need for a Superman movie you see, as there has been two TV series lately, with good effects etc...whereas Batman hasnt been visited in a long time.....
...Bryan Singer should stick to X-Men if you ask me...

That's good news! It would be blasphemy to go with another theme. Only Star Wars is more recognizable. I like the choice for Superman. Lois might be a little on the young side, but we'll see. Routh has a lot riding on him, but as other unknowns like Tobey MaGuire proved, as well as Christopher Reeve, you don't have to be a well known star to play a larger than life icon successfully.

Well, if I put my fanboyism aside, there is less need for Batman. You watch Smallville and stuff so for you, Supes has been introduced. I've been following Batman's animated World since 92 since that time, hes never ever been off the air. Hes a character whos had more shows dedicated to him in recent years than any other superhero plus hes dished out 4 live action + 4 animated movies since 92. Supes is more ready though i think its great they're gonna use Batman first. Supes' success in many ways is determined by Batman, the way i see it.

Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? Give me a break! And this unknown as Superman looks ridiculous. I'm going to give it a chance, but Batman Begins will be much better in my opinion. For one the casting is much better, and Batman is much more interesting as a superhero than Superman. Bryan Singer should've stayed with the X-Men franchise before trying to helm this project, which has flop written all over it in my opinion.

which one is the peterson's script. iread a review for the script that was once written .. horrid. Just horrid.
I think you read my mind too. Superman vs Batman is like ... my dream movie. But I'm assuming that both franchises will need atleast 2 movies in before they do anything like that. That movies been in the works for how long? 7 years now? Hope Anderson stays away from it.

There's the Andrew Kevin Walker script. Last I heard, David Benioff was working on a new draft. I wouldn't mind Dan Harris taking a crack at it.
I would agree both franchises would need to be two films in before they merge.

I have a feeling though, that most people out there won't understand the concept behind Supes vs Bats.
Ever seen the cartoon? Thought it was decent.

Oh course, it was good. Clever how each found out the others identity.
It's not so much vs in terms of battles, though there is some fighting. I mean Supes could kill him in a sec. Burn his brains up.
It's more of a battle of ideology.

yup.
I heard that one of the first time in recent comics, Supes won over Bats in a fight. Very cool i thought that was. Usually bats takes him out, knowing Supes will go easy on him.

See, for me, I'm not ready for another SUPERMAN and based on that storyline about him being gone for 6 years, then just showing back up and continuing on where they left off is gonna feel odd not seeing Margot Kidder or even Christopher Reeve for that matter and I think the general audience is gonna have the same feeling.. Whoever plays SUPERMAN/Clark Kent is gonna have some MASSIVE shoes to fill and seeing Jude Law instead of Terrence Stamp as Zod will also feel awkward.. Stamp isn't that old.. They could've used him again instead of Jude Law.. What the hell was WB and Singer thinking on the Casting of that???
Batman on the otherhand is also another interesting scenario on one hand with being burned severely by the last 2 films, plus seeing an actor like Bale that doesn't look the part for this also reduces my enthusiasm for this film.. The Villains seem 2nd rate and there villains that unless you've read the comics faithfully, are virtual unknowns to the general moviegoer, plus all this borrowing from LOTR and 7 Years in Tibet with the Sword fighting and treks through the mountains feels like that's what there trying to sell the movie on is the success of LOTR and Tibet to out it over.. Nolan is also shooting for too REAL of a look to this film when in fact, it's not supposed to be THAT REAL.. It's a comicbook for heaven sakes and that's what looks to be lacking in the BATMAN BEGINS Trailers is Tim Burtons imaginary sets that made his films really good, especially the imagination that went into BATMAN RETURNS and the Ice Palace and the overall tone to the movie, even though I thought that's where there might of been an inkling of a "Jump the Shark" scenrio with the franchise further carrying it over in 3 and 4..
Overall, if I had to pick 1 right now that I'd be mpore excited about after considerable thought on both films, I'd think BATMAN would edge out SUPERMAN which again isn't saying much, just because I'm not ready to see someone else other than Christopher Reeve and the Cast of those films I've come to know.. I don't like change and SUPERMAN is gonna be a HUGE change..

You know?? The whole concept behind a Superman VS Batman movie when the smoke clears and you look at The BIG PICTURE is ludicrous in it's idea.. Think about this for a moment folks: SUPERMAN is an Alien for the most part from another planet known as Krytpon... He can bend steel in his bare hands, fly, have x-ray vision and all these superpowers that practically make him unstoppable, while BATMAN is a human being with basically no special powers, NOTHING except fancy Gadgetry and a kick ass car and a brooding personality dealing with his parents being murdered and that's basically it.. Now, how the hell does 1 expect that in a down and out fair fight, that Bruce Wayne/BATMAN, would even stand an inkling of a chance at beating The Man of Steel in a fair fight??? Come on?? Point in reason is a Dark Graphic Novel from Frank Miller titled "The Dark Knight Returns" which was the inspiration for the 89 film BATMAN.. In this Novel featured 4 short stories, 1 of which invloved SUPERMAN who now works for the President of the U.S Having to take out all costumed crime fighters in the world and bring them to justice including his friend Bruce Wayne/BATMAN who's now in his 50's, an Alcoholic and for the most part, out of shape, and having this struggle between turning his friend in he's known for so long or letting him slide and continue on as BATMAN.. To make a long story short, both Superheros slug it out in the end, basically SUPERMAN just stood there and let Bruce unleash his anger on him, and only throwing 1 punch that broke all of BATMAN's ribs in 1 punch.. 1 PUNCH... In the end, BATMAN logically could not beat SUPERMAN no matter how many stupid Gadgets BATMAN has in his arsenal.. No way he could beat the Man of Steel unless he fought Dirty and got a hold of a piece of Kryptonite and used it against him and I don't think Bruce Wayne/BATMAN would have it in him to do so..

It'd be more Epic if it were evenly matched, but realistically, BATMAN wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell at beating the Man of Steel, 1 on 1.. Fucking no way..

Did someone just mention that Jude Law is playing freaking General Zod?What??? Thas just dumb. First off General Zod in Superman 2 looks like hes more than 10 years older than Jude Law is right now so how the hell did General Zod hire a plastic surgeon to make himself look much younger if the movie takes place after Superman 2. I truely now believe that Bryan Singer has gone through some midlife crisis right now that hes hiring the whole youth group. For godsakes Famke Jenson was rumored to play Superman's biological mother and shes only 39. Thats as bad as casting Angelina Jolie in Alexander.
Superman Returns has a good director and a huge following but the cast really really really sucks

bkb .. you dont understand the entire concept of Batman vs Superman.
Its the age old battle!! And its not really a battle in the end at all.
Batman does what is neccessary. Supes is a boyscout. Batman is more than what you just described in the DC universe. Hes the most feared hero. Entire DC universe is scared off him. Hes taken out metas when the entire JL has failed. In a recent story arc, Batman had the balls to face off darkseid even he had to finally give in to Batman's wants.
In DC, batman is the greatest detective. He has a solution for almost everything ... as long as he gets a little time to prepare. While Superman is DC's darling, Batman is the fan favorite.
This is how Supes vs Bats plays out.
Supes knows he can kill him with 1 touch. Supes also has a boyscout mentatlity. He will try to put batman down without hurting or killing him. Batman knows that. He compltely relies on that (Read Batman: Hush when he openly comes out and says that). Batman on the other hand fights dirty. He knows whatever he unleashes cannot kill Superman so he goes all out. The Dark Knight Returns is 1 of many times that Batman has taken Superman out. And its always with keeping the same things in mind. Batman vs superman is never a fair fight.
you give batman very little credit. You should really check into his status in DC. While Supes may be the leader, Batman is the general of the entire DC team, the ultimate strategist.

Oops. I forgot to mention. Like Loyal says, B vs S is a battle of ideologies more than anything. If you're expecting the climax of the movie to be a showdown between those 2, you're mistaken. Chances are, any script would include an epic showdown between the 2 halfway through the movie which will come to an abrupt halt (prolly cause batman would use the ring or supes would just stop caring and go all out on bat) only to find out that they've been set up against each other. The movie will involve 1 villain from each rogue gallery with the good guys teaming up to take out the bad guys. Thats how every b vs S story arc has ever played out.

Point of clarification here. Captain America (of Marvel) is the ultimate strategist. Batman is the best that DC has to offer.
