Post Wal-Mart not selling BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN?
I just came across this on a message board:

I work for walmart and last night we recieved the copies of Brokeback Mountain and we got a letter from the company that said we are not going to be selling the movie so we have to send it back. Is this bullshit or what? Hope you all protest Walmart and I will never send another dime there again. I'll just get my paycheck and go shop at Target or wherever. Walmart can sell unrated movies, Bibles, Harry Potter( which some people consider witchcraft) , and the show OZ from HBO( which contains clips of male nudity, rape, and graphic langue and violence) but they won't sell Brokeback Mountain because it's a gay movie. So please I beg you to protest Walmart because I can't believe I work for a company that will do something like this.

I saw a cardboard stand up for it at my Wal-Mart, but I guess this has caused a lot of complaints at Wal-Mart stores across the US. I knew it would get some complaints, but I didn't think they'd cave into them. I called my Wal-Mart after reading this and asked if they are getting it on Tuesday and the girl said they are, but it is possible she just doesn't know they've decided not to sell it, if that's the case. Maybe it will only be some Wal-Mart stores that decide not to sell it and mine won't be one. I don't know. Part of me doesn't want to support this homophobic store but it's like the only store around here and it's where I was planning on getting my DVD of it. But if I knew they weren't selling it I'd just pre-order it online. However if they do get it I want to show my support of the film by buying it from them and showing them that despite some stupid, ignorant customers the demand is high.

I did a search for news involving Wal-Mart and Brokeback Mountain and came up with some news stories about the stupid American Family Association boycotting Wal-Mart for "promoting and selling this pro-homosexual movie" and trying to get others to boycott as well. So maybe their pressure on them will just get some not to sell it now, or maybe all Wal-Mart stores won't sell it now.

Here's one of the stories about this: http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/03/032706mart.htm

This is just so infuriating! My Wal-Mart better be selling it on Tuesday or I'll be fucking pissed! I guess all others not on the side of the AFA should start their own boycott of Wal-Mart if they do this.

Selling a movie about homosexual characters equates to promoting homosexuality?

In that case, these religious fuck-o's need to consider the far-worse behaviors Wal-Mart is promoting. The various disembowlments of obnoxious 20-somethings (Saw II), Arms Dealing (Lord of War), Organized Crime (The Sopranos), Crucifying Saviors (Ben-Hur), Mathematics (Proof), Watching North Country (North Country).

You know, it's funny how they go on selling these brutal horror movies and that's alright, but Brokeback Mountain is what causes an uproar . And that's because many so-called religious people treat homosexuality like it's worse than murder.

Well...

Wal-Mart does only carry the edited versions of CD's... oh, and they don't sell "Sex and the City" DVD's...

So it's not surprising

I suspect Wal-Marts WILL have the movie, though. There's some uproar from fundie groups, but I don't think it'll matter much.

Maybe they have some list of stuff they do not sell. But you will see its very likely going to happen like this.
1. They will see that BB is a huge hit in DVD sales.
2. They will come up with some official "We do not want to dicriminate so we sell the movie" lying crap.
3. wal-mart wins:They sell themself as modern tolerant company and they make a shitload of money with the BB DVD.

My Wal-Mart sells the Sex & The City DVD's. They have all along, at least since the third season came out which is when I actually purchased a Sex & The City DVD from Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart, like the Christian Fundamentalist moviements it loves so, has one overriding tenet: Money trumps God.

These Christian associations get more money pumped in when they make loud public statements like this. They're not doing it to serve the 'Lord." It's kinda like a PBS pledge drive.

Same with Wal-Mart. I imagine there's more money to be made with BBM than without it. They'll have Brokeback Mountain.

Yeah, I figured they'd eventually end up selling it.

maybe you should first go to a wal-mart and see if they're selling it before listening to one man's report on the subject.

oh yea .. and get over it.

I'm pretty sure Wal-mart will get over themselves and the fundalmentalists and go ahead with selling Brokeback because I doubt they would pass up on the money the sales of sucha huge movie will bring. I wouldnt be surprised is small, privately owned movie stores and rentals wont carry it. peoples warped sense of self-righteousness often gets the better of them.

I never said this was a sure thing, which is why I had a question mark in the subject. Though his must not be, at least they aren't planning on it but eventually probably will cave in. I'm not sure if all Wal-Mart stores will be like this or if it will just be some.

As for other stores like Target: I don't live in a big town and we only have Wal-Mart. That's the ONLY place in town to buy new DVD's. I'd have to go an hour for the nearest town that had another place I could buy it. If I didn't have to buy at Wal-Mart I sure as hell wouldn't because they are said to be a homophobic company. It doesn't feel right doing business with them, but I don't have much of a choice.

I saw a big ad for it at the entrance of a local Wal-Mart, and I live in a very christian republican area. So yeah, I'm guessing it either A) BS or B) Utah.

I read on a message board a couple days ago that Tupac isn't dead. Could it be true?

I actually read a really good "Tupac isn't dead" article a few years ago, it was talking about a huge conspiracy with the number 7. He was supposed to come back exactly seven years after the death, but of course it never happened.

i personally am starting to get sick of wal-mart. usually i get my DVD's there opening week sometimes, because of the 1st week price sales, but now they have nothing in stock. i'd prefer to go to either target, Best buy, Circuit City, even though they sell it more expensively but hey they have that day after thanksgiving and christmas special, so i can strike a good deal :hahaha:
