I don't see what's inherantly bad about The Reaping. It looks like a cross between the DiVinci Code audience and the horror genre, sure it's commercial, but eh. James Cox's last film was Val Kilmer's Wonderland which was pretty good. He was able to pull a lot of great performances out of it. And it's from the writers of House of Wax who everybody on this board seems to be going ga-ga about.
And again, Brian De Palma and The Black Dahlia, with Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett seems like a good story/cast/setting and a terrific directing choice for De Palma who seems to do really well with his leading ladies. It's true that his more recent filmography has included Mission to Mars and Snake Eyes, but most recently he did Femme Fatal, which I actually quite enjoyed.
In my opinion, these are better projects for a "newly crowned" Best Actress winner than Charlize and Halle's turn to action films after winning the big prize.

Love DARK CASTLE. (Especially GOTHIKA and HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL). And the upcoming HOUSE OF WAX looks fantastic.
This is a nice step for them. Hopefully they can keep their $30M+ box office movie run with HOW and the REAPING.

Hey the girl has to support herself and I doubt if hubby Chad Lowe is bringing in big money.
You know, I saw a signature at Oscarwatch's forums that was made up movie posters in equation form that basically said this: Next Karate Kid + Boys Don't Cry = Million Dollar Baby

I think the movies she's about to do sound good. De Palma, is well, De Palma. Its not bad to work with him, period. The Gothika-esque sounding Reaper isn't bad. I don't mind Berry for trying that film out, I mind Berry for being a Bond Girl. That's wht killed her, not Gothika. Nice to see that Swank is still trying to take on these more serious roles instead of resporting to all the huge dumb action movies Berry went for. As to Theron, what the hell has she been in since last year? I don't even know. She's actually being smart and not going for the massive film roles that Berry did. Berry is a case study in how an Oscar can also kill your career (well, not literally, since she still does have a career, but she needs to take two years off and then come back doing smaller roles, indies, and lead roles on tv like Their Eyes Were Watching God that she just did).
