Brandon Routh OUT as SUPERMAN and Tom Welling In..
http://www.moviehole.net/news/5137.html
Well this would appear to be the so called RUMOR or news of the night that appears to be on alot of websites, but according to MOVIEHOLE.NET, The fans weren't apparently too happy with Bryan Singer Casting Brandon Routh as SUPERMAN cause he's too unknown and apparently can't act that well either and instead have booted Routh in favor of SMALLVILLE'S Tom Welling as The Man of Steel.. Personally?? I could give a hoot who they cast for the role and for that matter, I don't even care about this project at all cause I still think it's too soon for a SUPERMAN movie and chances are, if they go with Welling, then this movie would seem like it's SMALLVILLE: THE MOVIE and I'm not so certain that's a good idea either considering there starting filming on this in what?? Around 30 days?? Isn't that a bit drastic and too late to cast someone else for this role if there shooting in 30 days??? Do the fans have THAT much control over movies now to the point where there calling the shots on these fanboy comicbook adaptations instead of the Studios??? God I hope not.. [-o< PS: Why is Bryan Singer also Casting someone like Jude Law as General ZOD instead of Terrence Stamp if the story calls for this to be a continuation from SUPERMAN II set 5 years later when The Man of Steel comes back from whereever he was?? Are you telling me that Terrence Stamp is too old to play ZOD, 5 years older in looks and Jude Law is better suited?? What the fuck is up with that??? Stamp is NOT that old and a little makeup can go along way WB.. Christ.. ](*,)

I'm seriously doubting this. Whiney fans weren't happy about the casting of unknown Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but Singer didn't recast to make them happy.

I highly doubt this rumor is true based on what has been said up above, and since I believe filming was scheduled to begin today. Edit: Filming begins March 3rd

I don't know either of these two actors...
I'd like to see WB wait and see how Batman Begins does. It'd be better for the movie anyways.

I almost told him that myself. No need to struggle to keep from pointing it out.
BKB, there have been more than a few late cast replacements throughout history, with the most recent that I can think of being Viggo Mortensen being cast to play Aragorn 4 days AFTER filming began on the LOTR trilogy.
Regardless, I think you'll be finding out that this story has no merit, and Routh looks the part to me more than Welling. Recasting because he's "too unknown" tells the credibility right there, as not only was Christopher Reeve unknown, but Singer always intended on getting somebody that nobody knew from the start.
I'm looking forward to Superman Returns quite a bit. The only issues I have, are that Lois is casted too young, and I'm not sold on Hugh Laurie as Perry White either, but I had similiar reservations about J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, and that worked out perfectly.

I actually don't mind Tom Welling. I think he should have been the premiere choice in fact. He looks like Superman and I do not think his acting is that terrible. A little tweaking and he'll be fine as a young Superman in a motion picture.

yes .. and also expect a superman that in no way looks the age hes suppose to be portraying : ) Tom welling is a bad choice for the script.

Actually bABA, he does look young yes, but we all know that age can be manipulated well through special fx and make-up/styling. I still stand by Tom being a good choice. Take a look at these pics below.
^^^^^^bABA...are you not swayed yet?? I know that last pic had to be tempting!!

No I'm not.
The problem here is Welling does not look enough to play the part "IN cONTEXT OF THE SCRIPT"
Spoilers
From whatever is available to us, the script implied that events of superman will take place 6 years after superman2. Yet a lot of the story will also be told in flashbacks.
Meaning whoever Superman is, he must look the age of the character from superman 2 and then upto 6 years older.
While Tom Welling may be 27 years old, his entire personality and looks are more catered for someone younger. Its tough to accept him as a "man", so to speak.
Routh is actually younger than Welling but has a better superman suited physique, geeky look, yet boyscout looks that belong to supes. And his faace oddly looks like a man, quite unlike Welling.

Well I think we can pretty well put this RUMOR to rest, at least according to Harry here.. Like I said, I wouldn't of lost sleep over any of this casting of SUPERMAN controversy cause I'm just not feeling the need for another SUPERMAN movie, at least not just yet.. I still think it's way too soon for this and also, this Casting of Jude Law as General ZOD is another bunch of Bullshit when Terrence Stamp isn't that old to play the part again.. Just make his character look 6 years older for heaven sakes.. What the fuck was the point of this casting Singer??

This was one of those obvious rumors. Singer knows what he's doing. I also think it was smart to stay away from Welling, because you don't want to give off the appearance of this being Smallville:The Movie. It wouldn't be smart at all to associate the movie with a TV show that people watch on TV for what amounts to pennies. The movie/franchise needs it's own individuality. I wouldn't want Annette O'Toole and John Schneider as Ma and Pa Kent either. The movies are a different animal. It only works the same if it's Star Trek.
