Post Titles that Caught Your Eye
Ever taken a movie off the shelf because of the title? Judging a book by its cover? I do it all the time, and usually get mixed results. Some of the movies hold up to their promises, and others, the title is about the strongest punch and it goes downhill from there.

At Play in the Fields of the Lord - Title was the only redeeming quality, damn.
I Spit on Your Grave - Great Title, I'm still not sure I cold even watch this movie.
The Sweet Hereafter - Great Title, great movie. The first time I saw it was just because of the title.

I had such a long list of these last night and sadly forgot them. A cup of coffee might help me remember, but anyways, what movies have you seen because the title really caught your attention, or am I the only one who does this?

Conveniently forgot the "cat" part, did we?

I Spit On Your Grave is a great pick, Galia. Too bad the movie is terrible.

Haha, I know. I read every review on it and they all said the same thing. Too bad the title rocks. Another one along a similar vein that was actually a good movie was Ms. 45. Great title huh? That's why i watched it. And bABA I almost listed Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, also. The entire Bosomania series is quite a catchy title. I mean for real...its called Bosomania. If you can;t give someone credit for cutting straight to the chase with titles like that....

Other titles were:
Christ Stopped at Eboli (It happened to be an excellent movie too)
The Hawks and the Sparrows (sounds very metaphorical, alas, the movie was mediocre at best)

More to come....

I thought it was The Pope Must Diet?

ANything with white huh? Check out The White Balloon, and of course Three Colors: White.

Here's one that has always grabbed my attention and is a top ten title. I've never seen it though, but I probably will eventually because the title really intirigues me.

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie.

I love it when they take a verb and turn it into a noun. It just makes such an impression on me for some reason.

They chickened out at the last minute and added the "t" -- if you see the box for the film, you will note that the "t" is in a different font from the rest of the word.

Some of my favorite titles were changed by stupid movie executives:

"Cop Give Waitress $2 Million Dollar Tip" became "It Could Happen to You"

"Basil of Baker Street" became "The Great Mouse Detective"

"Brian of Nazareth" became "Life of Brian"

Ah well.

I've heard thats actually a very good movie. See, sometimes a well thought out title really does mean the what's inside will be good. On the other hand.....

Oh and Mike, I didn't know about the "t" being added. That makes no sense? Or does it still apply to the content of the movie?

Nah, makes no sense at all. The British version still is called "The Pope Must Die." It's a comedy with Robbie Coltrane (best known as Hagrid these days). It's about a guy who becomes Pope by mistake when the bad guys are trying to put their own corrupt Pope in place. It's an OK film.

Vampiyaz - some cheesy blade ripoff which piqued my curiosity until I read the plot summary on the back cover.

Evil Alien Conquerers - One of the worst titles ever, until I realized it was a comedy.

But the titles that catch my attention the most are the really long ones. The award for weirdest title is a tie between

Who is Harry Kellerman and why is he saying those terrible things about me?

and

Don't be a menace to South Central while drinking your juice in the hood.

Sometimes short and sweet, for example:

Equilibrium or Memento, etc.

Other times seemingly interesting titles such as:

Two cars, One night or Naked Lunch, etc.
