I'm assuming the other movies are leagues better than this one?

Oh yes, I think Howl's Moving Castle is not in the same league as Princess Mononoke, which in turn is not in the same league as Spirited Away.

From the ones I've seen, the order of Miyazaki from best to worst goes as follows:

Spirited Away
Castle of Cagliostro
Kiki's Delivery Service
La Puta
Princess Mononoke

A friend of mine thinks that Porko Rosso is his best, but I've not seen it so I can't comment. As for Howl's, I'll be satisfied if it's of Kiki standards. I was never a big fan of Princess Mononoke...

Great review, baba.

I'd second that. It is an absolutely great film. Also now available on DVD. If you like Miyazaki, acquire it at your first opportunity.

This is my order of the Miyazaki films I've seen.

Spirited Away (In my top 10 of all time)
Princess Mononoke (somewhere in my top 20)
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Porco Rosso
Laputa
Nausicaa

Baba, I'd say see Princess Mononoke next and then Spirited Away. If you don't like those 2, well I don't know what to say.
Haven't seen Castle of Cagliostro or Howl's Moving Castle yet. I may see HMC this weekend though.
