Post The Decalogue
I'd never heard of this film till Time released their '100 Best Films of All-Time' a couple weeks ago. They called it one of the best films of all-time, as well as the best film of the 1980's.

The film itself, from what I can see, has garnered some fantastic reviews (100% at RT) and is quite popular with the internet crowd (9.3 at IMDB ).

Anyone here seen it? (I know a couple people commented on it earlier, but I don't remember who.) Is it actually worth 10 hours of my time?

Yes, I've seen half of it before I had to stop. I couldn't stand them. They are by far Keislowski's weakest films both technically and especially conceptually.

See the Color trilogy and Double Life of Veronique first.

Keislowski typically uses these very surreal interactions and ambiguous spaces to explore potential and sentiment. In the decalogue, he uses the same filming technique, but sans the exploritory aspects of his other films. In the end, Decalogue is very Se7en-ish in that all each vignette does is lead to someone's demise via their sin. Its predictable from the start, a fairly conservative message, and very unfulfilling due to the split between style and content.

Plus each one is fairly short, so even the characters aren't developed. They're just these sinner forms that die or are completely ruined by the end. Blank useless slates. Any smaller moments of visual beauty are dwarfed by all these shortcomings.

There's a reason he completed them (quite some time ago) and chose to not release them. Even he wasn't satisfied with the outcome, and some distributer/production company released them post-mortem just to make a financial gain riding on the sentiments after his death.
