New release dates 2005 (updated on 6/1)
I know that we have "RELEASE SCHEDULE" thread in other forum. However, that thread is only for the wide release movies, not for the limited-released arthouse movies.
Therefore, I think that it may be good to start a "RELEASE SCHEDULE" thread for arthouse movies.
First, New Line's new arthouse division is set to release three news movies( including two HBO movies):
"Last Days" -- opens on July 22.
A HBO movie which is written and directed by Gus Van Sant. Starring Michael Pitt, Asia Argento, Harmony Korine.
"A Cock and Bull Story" -- opens on 10/14
Directed by Michael Winterbottom. Steve Coogan stars in this movie.
"The Notorious Bettie Page" -- opens on 3/10/2006
A HBO movie. Gretchen Mol appears as Bettie Page in this movie.
This movie gets US theatrical release is a good surprise for me.
Miramax will open "Deep Blue" on 6/3. The documentary becomes a critical and box office hit in Europe and Japan.

Warner Bros is also set to open Paul Schrader's new movie -- "Dominion: The Prequel To The Exorcist" -- on 5/20.
PS: New Line's new arthouse division will be run by former Newmarket Films President Bob Berney.

Great idea Mary. On a side note...who here, besides me, thinks Dominion will fare similarly to The Passion Recut?

I've said that since THE PASSION RECUT bombed so badly. I would still love to see it though.

According to Paul Schrader, there would be "a quick turnaround on the DVD, possibly as little as 4-6 weeks after theathrical. This, of course, is contingent on how well the film performs theatrically. Morgan Creek will most likely just issue an unadorned DVD with full and wide screen options and save the extras for a subsequent DVD, possibly in conjunction with the Harlin DVD. "

Doesn't sound like Dominion is going to follow the same release pattern as The Passion Recut, sounds like they are going to go slow and gauge market response as it goes.
I actually hope that it's at least decent (meaning better than most horror films these days) because if it's really so cerebral that the studio didn't want to release it, then maybe I want to see it.
If it is good, I do think they should do a two or three disk special edition with both films. I would really like to see a good documentary which covers this.
Already I read an article about how film professors were kind of looking at this and teaching their classes using these examples. Of course everybody always is making the assumption that the unreleased film *has* to be better, which could totally not be the case.

IFC Films will opens "Me and You and Everyone We Know" on 6/17.
I am very looking forward this movie! Talk about this movie in this thread
http://worldofkj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6983
After shelving it for (almost) two years, Miramax will finally open "Twin Sisters" on 5/6 !
Being shelved= bad movie? Not necessary. Don't forget that this movie got [Best Foreign Language Film] nomination at 2004 Oscar.

I am very looking forward to watch this movie!
PS: Can this thread to be "Sticky" on top?

The Bridge of San Luis Rey -- 6/10/2005 (limited release)
It will be the last film of Fine Line.
I heard several bad reviews for this movie. However, this movie is a must-see for me becauss of one reason: Robert De Niro .
The Libertine -- 8/19/2005 (Limited or Wide?)
Don't expect this Johnny Depp-starrer movie to become a major contender at 2006 Oscar -- Miramax is just cleaning its slate as it engages in divorce proceedings with parent Disney.
Everything is Illuminated -- moved to 9/16/2005(limited)
This Elijah Wood-starrer movie moves to more "Oscar friendly" release date.
Miramax also moved "Deep Blue" to 7/22

Johnny Depp.
Johnny Deep sounds a bit like a porno name wouldn't you say?
I checked out The Libertine at imdb, and it's got a 7.4 rating. Not bad. With Depp in it, it'll probably get more publicity than expected. Could actually break 10 million.

Two Johnny To's movies:
PTU - 8/12/2005
Breaking News - 8/26/2005
"Breaking News" is a very good movie!
(Both movies will be released by Plam Pictures)
Two Elizabeth Banks-starrer movie:
Heights (Sony Pictures Classics) - moved to 6/17/2005
The Baxter (IFC Films) - moved to 8/26/2005
Sony Pictures Classics will release " The Alzheimer Case " on 8/19/2005. This is slick, commercial film-making in the manner of The Crimson Rivers and Infernal Affairs, which became a box office hit at Belgium and won a slew of prizes at the Belgian Joseph Plateau Awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.
