Grave of the Fireflies Hellsing Ghost in a Shell Ghost in a Shell 2: Innocence Castle in the Sky Metropolis
Grave of the Fireflies is simply stunning, though it is difficult to watch.
Hellsing is simply a funked up look at a modern vampire story, but don’t watch the dubbed version.
Ghost in the Shell is cinematically stunning, though its story does get a tad complex and you can walk away thinking that it's too far ups its own arse.
Not seen GITS 2
Castle in the Sky is simply stunning, its easy to see how it established Miyazaki as a visionary.
There's a lot to like about Metropolis.

And of course, there's Hayao Miyazaki. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are both somewhere in my top 15 of all time. I'd say if you haven't seen anime, those 2 would be great introductions.
I also love a series called Fooly Cooly, its only six episodes (and way too expensive here) but its a fantastic series.
I have the soundtrack to FLCL - Fooly Cooly!!!!!
But I have to admit, the show is very, very weird.

Grave of the Fireflies is depressing as all hell. I barely made it through the entire thing I felt so morose by the 15th minute.

Grave of the fireflies is good but i wasent blown away by it.
Metropolis is visually stunning and the story is very good, the I cant stop loving you scene is just fantastic.
I have a love/hate thing for dragonball,i really liked dragonball, and when the dragonball z saga started it was very good(and vegeta rocks!)but the ridiculouse goku and freeza fight almost made me stop watching the show completely. The scene where the planet namek is supposed to blow up in 5 minutes,it took like 15 episodes for those 5 minutes to end! and Goku's ridiculous super saiyan transformation took to long,it looked like he was taking a huge crap for 5 episodes.Fortunaly the series picked up after the freeza saga. But Dragonball GT is absolutly awful!
The first anime i ever saw was aladdin and the magic lamp when i was 5,it was faithful to the original story and not crap like the disney version.
