Not this has much to do with Bubble, but the only truly horrific experience I ever had in the theatre was when A Few Good Men came out and the audio started but the video didn't. We heard the first 15 minutes of the movie without seeing it, and people got mad...thought the whole thing would just start over. But apparently that would have thrown the whole day's schedule off whack, so the theatre said we could either chose to start the movie twenty minutes in, or get a refund/ switch our tickets. There was all this hooplah with people calling out what's going on, and all of a sudden this guy jokingly yells "Ross Perot for President." It happened to get really quiet at that time, so of course, everyone heard it and was like, "Huh?" And everyone laughed, left the theatre, and that was that. We saw a later showing.

Some of you guys are so unfortuneate. All these problems! I'd watch at home too. But you know what really is the best way to watch movies at home? Take a good laptop and put it on your bed, and watch a movie in a nice big bed with some good snacks. Now that I have a tv and couch, I watch it there, but nothing beats watching a movie in bed. I still sometimnes do it with my laptop just for fun...

The funny thing is, everyone here thinks I'm the nympho, and I'm positively chaste in thought compared to you dirty old men.

Going with what dolce said, I bought my new 20in widescreen imac for my room so I can watch movies in bed!! It has great sound and a sexy little remote.

I can watch Crying Game when I'm ready to fall asleep and listen to Boy George's lullaby all night long.

I'm thinking of getting one of those once I move in to my new apartment, and of course I can afford it. ;)

Went in to the Apple store the other day. They are gorgeous.

Did you play with it? The remote? The exposition? It's an amazinnnng machine. I got mine on new year's day.

It's working out really nicely so far. Give me your cell, ill text u a shot of my preeeecious.

Oh, and if you do get one, I suggest the 17in. Dare I say the 20 is too big? I bought mine from CompUsa and got a free service plan and Microsoft Office under the table, heh.

Ebert & Roeper raved about Bubble on their show this week, Roeper even called it a masterpiece. I'll definitely be checking it out, though I'm not sure if I'll do the theater or DVD route yet.

By the way, this is coming out next Friday in theaters and the Tuesday after (31st) on DVD.

I liked Ebert's comments on the show - saying that for a "smaller" movie like this, that any way it can find an audience is a plus. He also suggested that the DVD could be for sale in the theatre lobby for those who just saw it and loved it.

As the comments in this thread show, there doesn't seem to be much crossover between selective theatre goers and mindless DVD watchers...

Oh Match Point...

3 people in the cinema, including me.

During the tennis scene, a guy in the row behind me, out loud, repeatedly

"Bend at your knees."

Thank god there wasn't a lot of tennis in the film.

But he made up for that by repeatedly, as if timed with scene transitions, loudly clearing his throat.

Good News: Bubble will be waiting for me on the DVR when I get home.

Bad News: I'm not sure when I'll be home.

I read some reviews this morning, where people were pretty warm on Bubble. And all of them emphasized that the actors really aren't theatrically trained, etc.

Consensus from RottenTomatoes where it stands at 70% Fresh:

Quote:
This rigorously stripped down, seemingly mundane little film still manages to be engrossing and creepy.

I think I'll check it out this week at my local indie theater.

I have no idea if I can even get through the whole low budget of the movie, I mean it looks like something a high school student filmed, the fact the budget was over 1m is incredible, it looks like it cost $1000.

Thats true in alot of casses but the look of the film combined with the non actors really puts me off. I'll probably check it out on dvd, just out of curiosity.

And this one... anyone check it out since its release?

I thought it was great. I guess I still don't really understand why Soderbergh is taking this route, but I admire the ambition. And if this is any indication, I think these films are going to work artistically, even if they don't do well theatrically or even on DVD.

The murder mystery here around which the plot revolves is bizarre, indeed, but the acting is strong enough (very strong, actually) to keep the whole thing pretty grounded. I was thoroughly enthralled.

B+

I finally watched it and was underwhelmed. I enjoyed the exercise itself but the content wasn't up to par.
