Post Focus Features' "RORY O'SHEA WAS HERE" trailer
According to IMDB, at 2004 Edinburgh International Film Festival, "RORY O'SHEA WAS HERE" won the Standard Life Audience Award, thumbing its nose at THE MOTOCYCLE DIARIES, HERO, and a host of other hyped films.

I've seen the trailer for this at least 1/2 a dozen times. It looks pretty tipical to me. Nothing spectacular. I couldn't get excited by it at all. Have you seen the trailer Mary, what did you think?

I think that this may be a kind of movie that can't be hihglighted in typical "American-style" trailer, like ABOUT A BOY.

UK trailer may be better for you

Anyway, it movie is getting amazing reviews oversea. I also like Romola Garai, so I would see this movie.

About a Boy looked 100x better.

I don't think it looks "typical". It does look kinda odd, but what I saw didn't seem too well-done. Depends on the reviews, I guess.

About a Boy looked way better because it wasn't quite so expository, and the narrative didn't seem so cheesy and heavy-handed. "Why would you want to be like everybody else?" blah blah blah. If anything, it seems "cute." Oh how cute, I think I heard something in the trailer about "respecting" people too, and learning to open up to people. Meh, I guess it could have some good dialogue, its more the moral lesson and plot that seem to be seriously sugar-coated. It might just be the trailer because of promotion needs.

Mary, Torri, did you guys see the About a Boy trailer? I never saw it, but was it the same really? Rottentomatoes, btw, has no reviews up for it yet. Mary, what reviews do you know from overseas? Is there a UK link for reviews sort of like RT that you get them from, or do you live there?

Rottentomatoes has three reviews now.

Maybe [getter amazing reviews] is a overstatement, but this movie did get mostly positive reviews.
Unlucky, this movie is a box office flop in UK, so I don't expect this movie will become a arthouse boxoffice hit in US. I will see this movie. anyway.

Yeah. My mother wants to see it and I promised her that anything she wanted to see, if she waited for a visit from me, I would accompany her (she doesn't go to movies alone). So I've already been recruited to Phantom of the Opera and Meet the Fockers cause of it. She went with me to see Sideways yesterday and saw the Rory O'Shea trailer, so I'm sure we'll go. I'd love to hear what you think once you saw it. I like to give it a chance, because the Irish films of late have all at least been passable. I haven't hated any of them, so it could just be the corny trailers. They have a style I'm getting used to. Doesn't push too many buttons, but isn't bad either. They tend to be very dialogue rich, which I like.

We shall see.
