Funny, I had tickets to go see Black Snake Moan a few weeks ago, guess it was one of those test screenings, but I didn't make it.
The Last Mimzy is considered indie? Looks fairly mainstream to me, but who knows.

The Last Mimzy (better title then the original "Mimzy") looks like a mainstream Donnie Darko that'll be much lighter. Indie is such a loose term, very few of the breakout ones are true independent films in my mind.

Haggis again?
Paul T. Anderson has another film this year, There Will Be Blood, with Daniel Day-Lewis.
Noah Baumbach, The Squid and the Whale's director, has Margot at the Wedding, starring Nicole Kidman. Nicole Kidman is also doing a film with Oliver Hirschbiegel, Downfall's director, but the latest buzz on that wasn't good.
And there is I'm Not There, directed by Todd Haynes and starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Adrien Brody.

Wow, I didn't know this.
See, now here is my #1 film I'm looking forward to now. Release in Germany (according to IMDB) in Feb 2008 could mean an Oscar season run for PTA.
Paul Dano (teen boy from LMS) and Ciarán Hinds are in it too! wow.

It's hard to tell at this point if Marriage (which I've mentioned elsewhere, '50s set thriller/noir/drama-ish thing starring Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Rachel McAdams and Patricia Clarkson) is a studio release or more independent, but I'm leaning towards the latter. It's supposed to come out in the summer and I heard the director say something about Cannes.

Anyone seen the trailer for The Namesake yet? Can't tell if it looks good or cheesy, and I have to admit I have not seen much of Mira Nair's stuff.

Fuck The Namesake.
I can't wait until Mira Nair directs "Gangsta M.D." starring Chris Tucker as a thug's elaborate cover-up comes undone, forcing him to try to become the man he's pretended to be all along.
If you think I'm fucking kidding then BEHOLD: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0438049/
She should have directed Harry Potter 5, which she was offered.

What about Eastern Promises? It's Cronenberg's next, with Viggo, Naomi Watts, and Vincent Cassell. Not entirely postive about the plotline, but I guess it revolves around Russian mobsters or something.
