 5 independant films to watch
Since I may as well just start posting here, I may as well bring over a popular thread that is still big at Mojo.
Here are 5 recent independent films that you should be just as excited over as a big blockbuster.
1. Spartan- Val Kilmer as a badass FBI ghost who tries to find a politician's daughter. This one was really ignored when it was released which was somewhat large, but it is definately a top 10 of the year in my book. It was fastpaced and very intense all the way through, Makes you remember why you used to love Val Kilmer.
2. Shade- What can I say, Stallone is on a somewhat comeback on the quieter side these days, though his role is really wateredown. A very fun look on the criminal side of card players or cheaters for that matter. Has a great cast and is a fun movie all around to watch.
3. Bubba-Hotep. I just saw this today and I have to say it's the most ridiculous film I have ever seen. It's about Elvis and John F Kennedy today who aren't dead but actually live in a retirement home. JFK was dyed a black man and some of his brain was taken away, Elvis traded places with a impersonator and is a humorous shadow of his former self. The only problem is that there is a 4000 year old mummy sucking the soul out of the buttholes of all the old residents. Itsa crazy film in every aspect but it is very entertaining to watch.
4. I heart Huckabees, Just saw it and I can't speak higher for anyfilm out right now. Great performances and a great movie, see this when it comes to your theater.
5. Napoleon Dynamite and Shaun of the Dead, 2 you should have heard of that you can still see in theater. Both are hilarious and have very simple storylines.
PS- Spartan, Shade and Bubba ho-tep are on DVD right now and you can still catch the rest in theater.

Spartan - #6 of the year for me. Great movie. I think the pace was excellent as was the dialogue.

Out of those movies, I've seen Shaun of the dead and Bubba Ho-tep (check out my sig) as well as Napoleon Dynamite. They're all worth checking out.
I plan on seeing Huckabees tomorrow, the reviews have been mixed so I don't know what to expect.

I agree! This movie went down without anyone noticing it (well, aside from Algren ), but it was fun, especially for passionate poker players like myself.
