Patrice Leconte's movies always get very little Internet buzz. Few moviefans on Internet likes to talk about his movie.

However, based on his recent US Box office record.

2004 -- Intimate Strangers US gross: $2.1 million

This Box Office track record is modest overall but strong in the foreign language area.

It proves that Patrice Leconte has his fanbase in US.

Therefore, I can't figure out why his movies always get very little Internet buzz.
Many movie, which grossed less than all of four Patrice Leconte-directed movies, got much more Internet buzzes than all of four Patrice Leconte-directed movies. (ie. May, Dogville, Mean Creek, All the Real Girls, Equilibrium, Love Me If You Dare, Infernal Affairs........)

PS: Girl On The Bridge, Man on the Train, Intimate Strangers are released by Paramount Classics.

Huh, that interesting because I know all of them except Intimate Strangers, and he's even had huge actresses like Binoche in Widow.

I think it shad to do with the import nature. Imports that make headlines, Life is Beautiful, Hero, CTHD, Amelie, Motorcycle Diaries, were BIG grossers. All of them broke 15 million I believe, so they set out this foreign invasion type mania. People can relate to speaking about them communally. But in general, going into a rental place with foreign films is like going into a book store. Regardless of if the book or author is any good, the selection is just so huge that probably not more than a handful of people are familiar with the same names.

Its not just foreign films of course, there are India directors that have made a handful of movies that grossed decently, similar numbers, betwee, 2 and 4 million, and they are still unheard of. I'd list a few, but I haven't heard of any of them.

As in this case, i hadn't even noticed they were all by the same director? Mary, how did you come across this? Are you a fan of his?

I think that audience demographic of Patrice Leconte's movies would be "wider" than those India movies, because his movie were released by a major studio's specialty division. (Except The Widow of Saint-Pierre , which was released by Lions Gate.)
Man on the Train is also doing surprisly well business in home-video market. This movie was one of the five movies which got "Foreign Language Title of the Year" nomination at VSDA's 2004 Home Entertainment Awards.

I didn't love The Widow of Saint-Pierre and Man on the Train, but I love Intimate Strangers and The Girl On the Bridge . :razz:
