I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
Not Oscars-wise, no. He will win, I have little doubt about that.
But following the comments of movie fans, colleagues and my readers (I try tzo stay in touch with my readership), I start reading more and more comments about how DiCaprio is gonna win for thr wrong performance, how Tom Hardy outacts him in this film, how he only gets the Oscar because he is overdue or because the shoot was so hard.
David mentioned something like this before and I am feeling it too. The sentiment of #OverratedDiCaprio is starting to build. I am not saying I agree or disagree, but it seems to be a thing.

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
Does it even matter? Kind of a silly argument, especially since so many acting Oscars are less for the role and skill shown and more because of an overdue status.
Leo IS The Revenant. Haters gonna hate.

Leo IS The Revenant. Haters gonna hate. Does what matter? It is just an observation that a lot of the people who were clamoring for him to finally win are turning against the win now, heh.

I don't think you, David, and some readers = a tide. I don't see #OverratedDiCaprio being a thing, more like #FinallyDiCaprio. It's exhausting that he hasn't won yet.

Did people think #FinallyPacino when he won for Scent of a Woman? It is also not "some readers", but a whole bunch of journalist colleagues as well.

I mean everyone who is saying it, has seen the film, a silly question actually.

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
I'm on the side of his performance being overrated and he'll only get it because he's due, and Fassbender gives one of my favorite performances of the last 5-10 years so I strongly lean to his side of those roles. But overall the sentiment towards DiCaprio seems very positive

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
I haven't seen or heard anything related to Leo being overrated or the tide turning against him - rather I've seen the exact opposite. That people are rooting for him and are thrilled he will (very likely) finally win, and don't want him to have to cut an arm off in his next film in order to finally win a damn Oscar, lol. So I don't personally feel what you're saying.
Peace, Mike

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
But I guess none of you spend 10 hours a day in dozens of film-related Facebook groups with thousands of members.
Still, 80% of the comments are positive towards him, but 20% are less so and it used to be about 99% positive.

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
It's the Internet. Eventually they turn on everyone. It was just a matter of time. And with countless "Leo should've won for ______." I guess it's natural this win will bring out people who think this is a pity Oscar.

It's almost hard for me to personally fathom people think Tom Hardy's Snidely Whiplash-esque performance is better than DiCaprio's.
But what do I know.

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
I think the general WoKJ perspective is it's about fuckin' time, he's exhausted, we're exhausted, he should have already won years ago, but this will do.

If he doesn't win, I fear what he'll do in his next role. Literally saw off his own limbs on camera? If it's The Devil in the White City, god help us all.

No, he'll BE the bear. In character, the entire shoot. He'll MoCap his way Daniel Day Lewis style to an Oscar.

Re: I feel the tide is turning against DiCaprio
I want him to win despite liking Fassbender and even Redmayne better. It's a good performance.
The real backlash will be if he doesn't win.
