Post Predict Oscar nom shockers 2015
One week!

Here's last year's thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=73196&start=0

I'm thinking we'll see surprises in Best Actor and Best Director.

Not sure Bradley Cooper would be a shocker at this point.

Could you give me a source that does not consider this movie at least 5 or 6 in the race? Everywhere I look has it interchanging positions with The Grand Budapest Hotel and Gone Girl.

Citizenfour not nominated for Best Documentary

Sienna Miller replacing Emma Stone or Meryl Streep in the Best Supporting Actress lineup (joining Arquette, Chastain, and Knightley)

Still Alice nominated for Best Picture

I'm still not on the American Sniper train... would an Eastwood nom be considered a surprise?

Websites predict where films rank in the race for Best Picture. It seems to consistently rank 4, 5 or 6 behind Boyhood Selma and The Imitation Game, and before, in the middle of, or directly after The Grand Budapest Hotel and Gone Girl.

If that happens, that'd be entirely political.

And Still Alice nominated for BP? That'd be an even bigger surprise than Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Which is fine, in a way. ;) I am not rooting for or against it, but the film is obviously a political equation to its very bone. And it should, by its very existence, force people to consider how they regard Snowden, his actions, his choice to plant roots in Putin's Russia, etc.

Politics might cost it a win, but not a nom.

Oh, and Birdman. I forgot that one.

So The Theory of Everything is minimum #7 and max #5

Could Selma miss a nomination? Weird stuff seems to be happening with it.

Selma will get nominated, the reviews are just too good. It did get a globe nomination. They just screwed up with the screeners.

Steve Carell will get in - for Best Supporting Actor
Selma will get at least five noms (not sure if that is considered a shocker at this point)
Rene Russo will get in instead of Meryl Streep for Best Supporting Actress

Last minute predictions: Jake Gyllenhaal won't get in, Imitation Game doesn't get either a Director nomination.

Maybe Best Actress will throw us a curveball, such as a Pike snub with both Adams and Aniston nominated.

Meryl is definitely ahead of Knightley and probably Chastain.

She's not ahead of Knightley, silly. Knightley was nominated by BAFTA, Streep wasn't, whereas Knightley has been nominated everywhere where Streep has also been nominated.

I noticed that too. That's a bit of a shocker, but I'm okay with it.
