 Inherent Vice? Anything?
I totally forgot about this film, until I saw a preview for it when I saw Birdman. I am surprised to hear nothing about in the Oscar race. Are we looking at a shutout come Oscar night?

 Re: Inherent Vice? Anything?
Adapted Screenplay nom and maybe a nom for Brolin. That's it.

 Re: Inherent Vice? Anything?
Best Adapted Screenplay is assured just based on the combined pedigree of Anderson and Pynchon, particularly since it is a thin category this year.

 Re: Inherent Vice? Anything?
Basically; "there's nothing else to nominate, so let's nominate that zany Oscar-friendly film".

This movie is so, so, so awful. It doesn't deserve anything.

 Re: Inherent Vice? Anything?
Yeah, Adapted Screenplay and Brolin are its best shots at nominations. Robert Elswit could also sneak in with a cinematography nomination; he's won with PTA before, and it has the added intrigue of being one of the few contenders shot on film.

 Re: Inherent Vice? Anything?
Best Cinematography seems a long shot to me. I believe any number of films are ahead of it there, including Gone Girl, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Ida, Interstellar, Mr. Turner, Selma, The Theory of Everything... Not to mention the all-but-locked-in pair of Birdman and Unbroken.
And while I have not seen Inherent Vice yet, the cinematography seems far less flashily opulent than There Will Be Blood and The Master.

 Re: Inherent Vice? Anything?
Cinematography is a longshot (hence the wording of "sneak in"), but it seems like there's almost always some out-of-leftfield surprise there (like 12 Years a Slave missing the cut last year).

I believe this year's "surprise" will be a nomination for Ida.
