 Best Picture 2013
We've got a poll on the winners, but this is for general discussion of the contenders in this category.
I think four movies that have played at festivals seems likely:
Prisoners Gravity 12 Years a Slave Rush
My current list:
Prisoners Gravity 12 Years a Slave Rush The Wolf of Wall Street The Monuments Men The Butler Blue Jasmine American Hustle Inside Llewyn Davis
Yeah, I think we might see ten nominees this year.

 Re: Best Picture 2013
If Captain Phillips keeps up its current reviews ( http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/captain_phillips/), I can't see it missing the top 10. Rush is probably out even with the good reviews given it's still a film about driving after all.

Ron Howard is a strong force, though. I think it can make it.

Can't see no other movie this year getting anywhere close to the masterful reviews 12 years a salve and gravity has gotten.

In my dream world, I would love to see Before Midnight nominated, but I sincerely doubt it will happen. It would just be really nice to see the Academy recognize the film in a substantial way to honour what is, I think, an amazing trilogy.
Peace, Michael

Captain Phillips was like, a lot better than Gravity.

Agreed. Leagues superior. Smarter, more intense, and with superior acting.

Peace, Michael Agreed. It's guaranteed they'll both be nominated but I believe Gravity and 12 Years A Slave are strong contenders to win Best Picture. Gravity has become too big to ignore.

MikeQ is officially over the hill. When you start referring to yourself as Michael when before it would have been Mike, you know you're now old.

 Re: Best Picture 2013
Just give me 9-10 for the AMC BP marathon. That's it. Though, Gravity making it will surely seal the deal for me.

 Re: Best Picture 2013
At the moment I'm seeing....
"American Hustle" "Captain Phillips" "Gravity" "Inside Llewyn Davis" "12 Years a Slave" "The Wolf of Wall Street"
Only alternatives I see happening... "Blue Jasmine" "Fruitvale Station" "Rush"
* projected winner
Yeah I know only 6 noms, but there are going to be so many #1's going to "Gravity" and "12 Years" that there won't be much percentage left for films to gain the 5% needed.

 Re: Best Picture 2013
Foolish to not at least consider All Is Lost, August: Osage County, and Nebraska as alternatives.

 Re: Best Picture 2013
Redford isn't going to be enough to drive All is Lost close to a BP nom.
August's campaign seems very quiet.
Nebraska should also have more going for it but it seems a lot of reactions are moving towards it's alright but not close to being one of Payne's best.

All three are at least better positioned than Rush.

August has little to no chance. Any buzz it had going into TIFF was gone very quickly.

 Re: Best Picture 2013
If Captain Philips wins this I don't think I'll bother with Oscar's ever again. And if Gravity wins that might be the case also. I want something actually great to win this year.
