Re: Full list of Oscar nominations
Some shockers:
No Inception for editing or directing No Waiting for Superman in documentary or song Barney's Version for makeup The King's Speech for sound mixing (!!!) Hereafter over TRON for visual effects

Re: Full list of Oscar nominations
"You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" missing out on Best Song is pretty surprising, IMO.

Re: Full list of Oscar nominations
The King's Speech sound mixing makes sense since the whole film emphasized the sound of his speech.
I actually agree with a lot of the snubs this year: Nolan (excellent screenplay but did not reach max potential due to direction) TRON visual effects sucked Andrew Garfield was not as good as Armie Hammer or Justin Timberlake Mila Kunis is not awards-worthy

Agree completely Though Garfield is at least as good as JT and Hammer.

Re: Full list of Oscar nominations
As much as I loved Black Swan, I'm glad Kunis didn't get in. Though Manville or even Hershey should've got in. Steinfeld should be in lead, none of the others should even be nominated.

She most definitely would have gotten in with all of the nominations that True Grit got and if she got in, Nicole Kidman or Michelle Williams wouldn't have been able to get in and they gave two of the finest performances of the year and it would have been a travesty for them to not get any recognition.

I can't believe The Back-Up Plan was snubbed for Best Picture.

Never count out the Weinsteins at the Oscars!
The Social Network has lost virtually all of its momentum in just over a week.
Though I never saw The Social Network as a "lock" to win. At this point, even True Grit may be able to pull ahead of The Social Network in the rankings, though The King's Speech is the strong frontrunner.
The Social Network just got Aviator-ed.

Re: Full list of Oscar nominations
Great to see John Hawkes and 127 Hours get love! Unstoppable's sound nomination and The Way Back's Makeup nomination were nice to see, if those great films are doomed to be otherwise shut out.
It shouldn't be surprising to see Inception "only" get 8 nominations... But Christopher Nolan being snubbed for Director yet again is a bummer when you consider who did get nominated.
And while I know its cool around these parts to hate on the frontrunner, I do believe its time to rally behind The Social Network winning Best Picture! At the very least, it should win Director/Adapted Screenplay/Editing... And hopefully Picture too! Either way, I'm glad this race has gotten that much more exciting.

Not really a fitting comparison. At that point, The Aviator still had all the monumentum. It has won the PGA and the Globe for BP. It also managed 13 nominations, more than any other film. Million Dollar Baby still had DGA ahead.

The exact opposite of this is true actually. The SP was riddled with plot holes and while it was very clever and mysterious, it was not spectacular writing. It was Nolan's absorbing direction that made the movie great.

Toy Story 3 got Picture and animated. Unlike Up though, I actually think it has a shot to upset Picture.
I still think Franco getting nominated and hosting is the dumbest thing ever.
Overall pretty good nominations this year
