 Best Visial Effects Top 7 finalists 7 FEATURES CONTINUE IN VFX OSCAR® RACE
Beverly Hills, CA — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films remain in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 82nd Academy Awards®.
“Avatar”
“District 9”
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”
“Star Trek”
“Terminator Salvation”
“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”
“2012”
On Thursday, January 21, all members of the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view 15-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, the members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

Re: Best Visial Effects Top 7 finalists I think Avatar and 2012 (considering the praise it got for its visuals) are locks, and I see the last spot being competed between Star Trek and Transformers 2. District 9 could be too subtle for this category.

Transformers 2
All three made huge money because of visuals and that is what I think so could be the mindset of people nominating these movies.
Star Trek could pitch in replacing Transformers 2 but I still think that VFX used in Star Trek are nothing new or different. Transformers can also have the same thing but visuals were much stronger point for TF2 then ST. Also ST relies more on story then VFX
