Another major ouch for Nine. Even more so than missing PGA. I mean, it's considered not only a lock for nomination, but the frontrunner for the win. Now I'm seriously questioning how many noms it could actually gather.

Good to see District 9 and Star Trek continue to show up. For BP contenders, no Precious, An Education, Invictus, or A Single Man.

What's the art direction in The Hangover?

And no nomination for Nine....owww, that hurts.

I expect Basterds, Avatar and The Lovely Bones to win.

Really Front Runner or not the Art Direction of Nine is one of its few good points.

I expect Basterds, Avatar and Angels and Demons to win.

But I think so Angels and Demons will be replaced by Up in the Air because it had a fresh look to it :)

I guess when they first wake up the next day in The Hangover, there are all these random stuff all over the floor that the set designers have to prepare for. Besides that...?

The Hangover's nom reminds me the similarly stupid nom for Michael Clayton.

My Oscar predictions:

Nine
Avatar
Star Trek
A Serious Man
Inglourious Basterds

Winners:

Period Film: Sherlock Holmes
Fantasy Film Winner: Avatar
Contemporary design: The Hurt Locker

http://www.awardsdaily.com/?p=19284

The Hurt Locker, even though not nominated for Oscar here, showed its strength among guild members once again.

well look what it was up against, though

CONTEMPORARY
Angels & Demons
The Hangover
The Hurt Locker
The Lovely Bones
Up in the Air

wouldn't be surprised if THL got 98% of the vote in that category.

IB showed a little weakness here by not picking up the win, but then again, Sherlock Holmes had some damn good sets. Plus it was nominated for the Oscar and IB was not.

Lovely Bones had great art direction though, no matter what you think of the film.

Unless I think it had lousy art direction.

IMO, the same could be said of Angels & Demons.
