If there were 10 nominees in previous years...?
Let's start with last year, what films would've also been nominated if there were 10 nominees?
The Dark Knight Doubt Revolutionary Road The Wrestler Wall-E

Same five I'm thinking, although I could see Frozen River sneak in over Changeling considering it got 2 key noms to show passionate following.

So presuming I was at least somewhat accurate, it seems like the Oscars could've included a much greater variety of films (and definitely could've had higher viewership).

Re: If there were 10 nominees in previous years...?
some of you are thinking way too broad.
The 10 BP noms would look more like NBR's top 10 than anything.

NBR 2007 List
THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES, ATONEMENT,THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (I hate this film), THE BUCKET LIST (Did Reiner bribe someone?), INTO THE WILD, JUNO, THE KITE RUNNER, LARS AND THE REAL GIRL (Good acting, but not BP worthy), MICHAEL CLAYTON (hated this film, but it had BP anyway), SWEENEY TODD (good, not BP worthy).

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Wishful, thinking, eh? I would love nothing more than LTROI for a BP nom...but not even ten nominees would have made that happen.

Why is everyone pencilling in The Changeling? That thing was dead in the water
I think it'd be
The Dark Knight Wall-E The Wrestler Doubt Revolutionary Road/Vicky Cristina Barcelona

LOL, no. - Three Oscar noms, among them a leading acting nom. - Eight BAFTA noms, among them best Director (RR got four and VCB got one!) - BFCA Best Picture nom (neither RR nor VCB got one) - Made NBR's Top Ten of the year (RR and VCB both missed) And it also was the biggest grosser of the three. Far from dead, I'd say.

Eastwood would get in with The Changeling or Gran Torino. There's no way he would've missed with 10 movies in the mix.
