The Year Of Jackie Earle Haley
The previous Best Supporting Actor nominee (Little Children) has roles in two high-profile 2009 films.
There's Rorschach, the center of Watchmen. For those unfamilar with the character, he's a not so nice version of Batman. Judging from early reviews, he knocks it out the park.
Haley also has a very baity role in Scorsese's Shutter Island as one of the inmates in the insane asylum.
I like Haley and would love to see him again nominated.

He should have won for Little Children.

Re: The Year Of Jackie Earle Haley
My friend who works at Paramount was helping the Watchmen crew with their luggage at the airport this weekend. She got a chance to chat with him and said he was REALLY nice.
I think he's a great actor too. He needs more material!

Re: The Year Of Jackie Earle Haley
While I'm sure Watchmen will be huge and people will love his character... is there any way he'll get much recognition from it? Since we never see his face and that's far from his real voice... then again, same applied to Andy Serkis as Smeagol.
Shutter Island should be his better shot at some real attention.

Re: The Year Of Jackie Earle Haley
I didn't mean to speculate he'd be nominated for Watchmen, rather the press from that film (every review thus far has singled him out) could translate into a nom for Shutter Island.
But a nom for Watchmen would be something. Even with Ledger's win, I think that ceiling has a lot more work left before cracking.

Re: The Year Of Jackie Earle Haley
Though he wont be nominated for Watchmen, it will help that it comes out before Shutter Island, thus increasing his profile. Its his followup to what could be one of the most memorable roles of the year. And all eyes will be on him.

Even with Ledger's win, I think that ceiling has a lot more work left before cracking. by attention, I was referring more to making his name better-known than actual Oscar attention (especially since Ledger's gonna make it hard for a comic book character to get into the race ever again). But maybe it'll sort of be like his Iron Man, with Shutter Island being the Tropic Thunder that gets him into the race. If that makes sense.
