Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
Apparently, Melissa Leo has a lot of support from people like like Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, Roger Ebert, Quentin Tarantino, Whoopi Goldberg, Ron Howard, Marcia Gay Harden, Josh Brolin and Sean Penn. http://www.awardsdaily.com/?p=7361#more-7361I am really surprised that Clint Eastwood would be supporting her over Angelina Jolie. This could be a really close race beetween Leo and Winslet.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
I find it very hard to believe that Clint Eastwood would be actively supporting her.

I don't see it happening. Just because certain people are supporting Leo, doesn't mean she will magically have the numbers to win. Peace, Mike

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
I would be thrilled if Leo, Streep, or Hathaway stole this away from Winslet. But I don't see it. I think Streep still has a chance, but Frozen River is just too small, and too unnappreciated, I think its' a good film with an astonishing turn, but she was lucky to get the nom let alone the win.

I don't think Winslet is winning. Meryl or Leo.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
My vote goes to Meryl. She's due moreso than Winslet.
Come on, 2 of Winslet's 6 noms, those in Best Supporting, were for less than stellar work.

It would be one of the Top 3 upsets of the decade.

I don't like it either, velocisnacktor, but Winslet is clearly the frontrunner.

pterosnacktyl you're being overly literal minded at a time when such action is clearly unnecessary.

kate is not winning simply because that will make me spit and I can tell I won't be spitting tomorrow.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
well, let's be clear here. Winslet has won 2 Best Actress Awards for The Reader, whereas Meryl has won 4.
Now Winslet also won an additional 3 awards for the same role in Best Supporting Actress.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
Snack, there may or may not be a frontrunner, but there's clearly someone who's not really in play. Hathaway, Streep and Winslet are both ahead of Leo. She's only ahead of Jolie and that simply for one reason - Jolie has won before.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
hmm...no. it's more like winslet > streep > leo >> hathaway (not sure why her steam ran out) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> jolie (even if she had never one before)
but winslet's still not winning.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
Then again, snack, you were a very very firm believer that Jolie won't get in when Changeling came out, heh.
I mean what has Hathaway won so far?
National Board of Review Chicago Film Critics Award BFCA
And Leo?
Nothing big at all.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
Hathaway's steam ran out because
1) it became apparent that giving Anne Hathaway a statue at this stage, quality of her performance aside, is lunacy 2) Winslet started grabbing all the heat 3) AMPAS hated hated hated her movie. They're just not that into her.

not so! well....I did argue that Sally Hawkins would NOT get in, which meant Jolie was (although I didn't want to put it that way). But yeah, early on I didn't think Jolie would happen. And I still think it has nothing to do with last year's "snub" that no one besides Lecter and the people he reminds constantly remember.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
I guess we'll never know.
And Hathaway steam actually never really ran out.
It all doesn't matter, though. It's Winslet or Streep.

Re: Melissa Leo - Best Actress Spoiler?
I've actually been thinking the same thing for a few weeks.
-As a character actress she was worked with many Academy voters throughout her career. -The DVD release date was perfect to her a nice little boost in the middle of Oscar voting. -She is amazing.
I'm not predicting her, I'm sticking with Meryl just like I'm staying with my early December predictions for all top 8 categories. But neither would it surprise me if she did win. Now would I mind it in the least.
