This year the Oscars are doing something a little different, what exactly no one really knows outside of 81st Academy Awards®, telecast producer Laurence Mark and executive producer Bill Condon and I would assume President Sid Ganis. Hints have been dropped such as the original shorts to be created by Judd Apatow, Baz Luhrmann and Bennett Miller and we also expect Hugh Jackman will break out into a dance number of some sort just to appeal to the Wolverine fans, but beyond that we are in the dark. However, we do know of one feature that will not be seen at the Oscars — Giant Robots!

In an exclusive interview Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen helmer Michael “The” Bay tells us when he got wind the producers of the Oscars were looking to go a different direction this year with the telecast he approached them with a pitch to bring Optimus Prime, Megatron and others from his feature film based on the toy line to the show. “I told them there was only one way to make the biggest award show on the planet even bigger outside of holding it at the Pentagon, and that was to feature the robots from my movie,” The Bay told me during a phone call early this morning.

His idea was to have the robots featured throughout the telecast including at least one dance off sequence between Autobot Jazz and Hugh Jackman. “Everyone that saw the first Transformers film saw the mad skills Jazz has as a dancer,” The Bay said. “He can break dance and even talks like a real homie!”

Following the dance sequences and his proposal that Optimus Prime and Megatron put their differences aside and announce the winners for Best Visual Effects, The Bay also wanted to end the show with one big bang. “I wanted to blow the damn thing up! All of it!” The Bay said without an ounce of sarcasm in his voice. “I get so much money for my films that occasionally it falls out of my pockets in large wads so I felt what better way to spend some of it before I lose it than by destroying the Kodak Theater and then rebuilding it as a replica of the Pentagon?!?!”

The master of explosions took a moment to calm down after this as he was obviously worked up over not only the idea, but primarily the fact it was unanimously rejected by Laurence Mark, Bill Condon and Sid Ganis. When I asked why his request was denied, The Bay did manage to compose himself and he gave a very relaxed answer, “Oh, some bullshit about the seats not being big enough for the robots to sit in and the fact Transformers was nominated for three Oscars and couldn’t even win one of them. You tell me, how the fuck did we lose to The Golden Compass? Huh!?”

Not having an answer since I thought the film should have won the Visual Effects category in 2008 as well I didn’t say a word and the two of us shared a moment of silence I wouldn’t give up for anything.

When I asked if he had anything left to add The Bay simply said, “I promise you we will rock your world with Transformers 2. The fans wanted ROBOTS KICKING ASS - well we got it. The onslaught began with the teaser poster back in early January and then the Super Bowl trailer and will continue with a steady drum beat until June 26th.”
