2009 - The Year of Matt Damon
Matt Damon, one of today's most respected and successful actors, hasn't been nominated for an Academy Award since Good Will Hunting. Do you believe this could change in 2009? He's in THREE strong contenders: The Informant (Steven Soderbergh, Warner Bros.) - Based on a true story. Damon plays a whistleblower who helps the FBI build a price fixing case against major company Archer Daniels Midland, but is later revealed to have been embezzling millions from ADM at the same time. The Human Factor (Clint Eastwood, Warner Bros.) - Damon plays South African rugby player Francois Pienaar. The film chronicles his relationship with Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) and the historic road to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final. Green Zone (Paul Greengrass, Universal) - An Iraq War action/drama/suspense film. Damon plays a soldier helping a CIA agent (Greg Kinnear) find WMDs. Amy Ryan co-stars as a foreign correspondent investigating the U.S. government's claims of the existence of WMDs.

Does Sarah Silverman co-star in any of them?

Oh, note the weight he put on for The Informant. The Oscar voters will go crazy.

The Informant probably has the best shot. Doesn't it deal with mental illness?

He looks like he's dressed up for Halloween in that shot of The Informant.

Green Zone will probably be great, but won't get Oscar attention. Maybe its Bourne duo will manage to grab some of that franchise's audience and make it a bit of a hit, but I doubt it'll get him a nomination. His other two movies sound like more interesting roles for him, anyways. I wonder if this'll be the year he gets his acting win.

I'll never be really able to take Damon seriously after Team America.
