 Is there a website
Out there who wants to talk about the awards without being bitter assholes about it?
Can you be banned for attacking a whole forum?

LOL Thing is, the bitterness is everywhere. I've checked out AD, BOM, Madonna forums, everywhere - bitterness abounds.

I could almost understand the bitterness if this was anything other than an awards show which has no impact on any of your lives.

 Re: Is there a website
Why just hold award fans accountable? Why not sport fans, fans of politics, beauty pageant mums, automotive aficionados?
You act like this is new Roo, don't be daft.
Just get the fuck out the forum for a few months, come back in June when its DOA and you can have the whole place to yourself, sans the so-called bitter assholes.

Ooh, ooh, I'm not bitter! I'm amused and casual!
These are the people who nominate steaming piles like The Hours and Ray and such year after year. Oh, AMPAS. The fickleness and predictability is why we love them.

Ah, roo.
Btw, TDK is not nominated for best picture. I'm happy.

This Reader business makes me feel guilty for liking The Hours.
Anyways, roo, is there a forum where you can go grow up? It's the internet. People complain. OMG!

The Hours should make you guilty for liking The Hours.
I can't imagine a scenario in which The Reader is worse. I don't want to imagine it. It wouldn't be healthy.

The only reason to watch The Reader is for naked Kate goodness. Problem is that Daldry makes her so extremely unattractive, you feel really guilty as your masturbate.

Anyways, roo, is there a forum where you can go grow up? It's the internet. People complain. OMG! Oh honey, get over it. It's a Holocaust film, so of course it was bound to be nominated. This bodes well for future Holocaust-related films. Maybe we can get one about Nazi incest, Nazi/Jewish romance ending with Nazi guard giving up his life to save Jewish girl (played by Natalie Portman, who is Jewish), Jewish/Gypsy cooperation (possible buddy flick?), Jewish-German post-war reconciliation and mutual anti-Iran fight film, and so many more. If anything, The Reader has opened up so many opportunities for future films.

I do wonder how the hell he's played in Munich and Defiance at this point. If he was a few inches taller he'd be the ideal physical Aryan. It's like how the Paramount executives wanted Robert Redford for the Godfather instead of "that midget Pacino".

 Re: Is there a website
I hate the Benjamin Button noms more than the TDK thing, which I find amusing
I mean BB is 50/51 on my yearly list and is the only film all year I wanted to walk out of halfway through. Not even the great Babel sunk that low

Hollywood has been, since before WW2, the biggest propagator of fascist imagery.

Maybe X:Men Origins Magneto will get nominated, since it'll show Max Eisenhardt's time in concentration camps via flashbacks.

 Re: Is there a website
No, Captain America, if they do it 'right'. American Hero fights Nazis. Same shit as Saving Private Ryan, plus comic book hero stuff.

 Re: Is there a website
You know, I was terribly bitter for the last two days. I'd say my posts suggested that, although I doubt many read them. But I found some solace in something last night. Let's face it: TDK had zero chance at BP, BD and Adapted Screenplay. Yes, it would have been great for the film to be recognized with a nomination, but truth be told, everything the film encompasses and everything that represents its greatness can be found in the nomination and eventual win for Heath Ledger. Just like Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova winning Best Song and having that award be their BP win, Heath's win will be TDK's BP win. Sure, it's the logic of a defeated man, but I rather see it that way than being bitter about it to the point where I'm actually hating Harvey Weinstein...
... speaking of which, I don't really blame him either anymore. The man has a studio that's never had its feet off the ground. It's biggest film is a third sequel to Scary Movie, according to BOM. And the second biggest is an animated film, Hoodwinked, and I'm not even sure what that is. But he made a push, it paid off, and so be it. TDK still has the third largest amount of nominations, behind the two frontrunners.

Now, if Heath loses, you may have to talk me off the ledge. Or off the watchtower if I'm feeling colorful.

 Re: Is there a website
For the record, even though I'm not the biggest The Dark Knight fan, I expected it to be nominated and was surprised when it didn't and would have been happy with Wall-E's nomination (even over The Dark Knight to be honest).
I understand that the balance sheet of this years Oscars doesn't really represent what's going on in Cinema (it sometimes, but very rarely does). I get it. I get the surprise.
But I'm not going to sit by, when I have experience and regret acting like a retard (see: Crash) and let this place turn into a forum full of bitter assholes.
Harvey Weinstein is a salesman and a businessman. His film made $8 million at the Box Office. He saw an opportunity to make more money by pimping the shit out of his film, and he did so. I would have done the *exact* same thing.
The Oscars are a business, but they are much more distributed than a board room who would sit down and say "Wall-E and The Dark Knight would give us higher ratings". The smart inside-Hollywood marketers get this. They get that the English like certain films. They GET that actors like certain films, etc. and they push them as such. They know that they have to get their film on that list and if they can get a film like The Reader listed in the #2 spot, even if #3 is Wall-E or The Dark Knight, then that's what they do.
