Toy Story 3 Is Pixar's Best Chance For A Best Picture Nod
I personally think Toy Story 3 is Pixar's best chance for a best picture nod in the next few years. Wall-E and other films were awesome and all, but Disney releases the Pixar films now in the summer, in order for the DVD's to be out for the holidays. What that ends up doing is hurting all of the Pixar films from really being all that competitive for the best picture nod (or at least memorable to the Academy).
Toy Story 3 will have more or less a 15 year legacy, and if its really good it'll get the best picture nod, almost to make up for all of the snubs. If there was a film that the Academy would want to reward Pixar with as a whole, it'd probably be the Toy Story franchise, thus Toy Story 3. If not, then Pixar won't get a best picture nod until they release a film in November/December again.
In 2011, there's The Bear and the Bow, Pixar's first December film. It has an allstar cast including two major British actresses (Emma Thompson, Julie Walters), which could help it pull a nod if it is HEAVILY marketed for the Oscars.

No way they'll give it to a second sequel.

Christ, if they can't give it to WALL-E or The Dark Knight, they ain't handing out anything to Pixar until the fossils die off at least.
12 years at least.

Like I said, if the Academy wanted to reward Pixar on a whole, they would do it for the film that has the biggest legacy, which is Toy Story. I think the steady re-releases of Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 will only help this cause as Toy Story will be more or less releasing 3 films in an 8 month period. Three films coming out compared to just one film coming out, will make it easier for the Academy to remember it.

As soon as Pixar makes a film that qualifies as dramatic at least at the Beauty and the Beast level, they'll get in. The tone of Wall-E was no different from their past ones.

Pixar needs to make a film about talking animals with identity issues frolicking around Nazi Germany. Then they'll get their nomination.

It's certainly their best chance out of their upcoming lineup of movies (including Newt, Bear and the Bow, Up, Toy Story 3, and Cars 2)... but yeah, it sounds like Wall-E wasn't even close to a BP nomination, so I know I won't be predicting it unless we see a nearly perfect RT score and $350m+ at the box office.

That reminds me. I hope everybody goes through this same sad, hopeless dance when Nolan gets around to a third Batman picture.

Re: Toy Story 3 Is Pixar's Best Chance For A Best Picture Nod
Can we stop hoping for every Pixar movie to be the one that finally gets a Best Picture nomination? When it happens it happens, and I am sure it will most likely be for a deserving picture, as their streak is pretty much safe. I mean, except for Cars their body of work is magnificent.
I mean, I can't wait for Toy Story 3 but I don't think it's necessary to start pimping its Best Picture chances one year in advance of its release.

Brad Bird + 1906 Earthquake + Live Action = Pixar's first BP Nom.

I promptly slapped myself in the face.

No Pixar animated film will ever get Best Pic. Thats why the animated category was created. You can forget it. Wall-E never was in the running.

If they didn't go for the eco-message film with through-the-roof reviews, I doubt they would go for Toy Story 3.
