Who's waking up early for the announcements? (2009)
So how many people are planning on waking early at 5:38am PST just to watch the Oscar nominations? Or do you usually wake up around that time anyway? Same thread was made last year, wondering if anticipation will be any different this year: 2008 results:

Yeah, I'm wide awake by that time for work anyway

It's only a half hour earlier than normal, so yeah.
Of course, I'd probably wake up early even if I had nothing else to do that day.

It's on Thursday, right? I'm off that day so I won't be waking up early by any means but that's almost 9:00 AM Eastern time, right? So add in an extra hour for me because since we don't change times we run an hour late from the Eastern time zone for half a year so I might be awake by then. I'm praying for a surprise nom or two.

Re: Who's waking up early for the announcements? (2009)
Well, it's already 8:30 here when they're announced so not that big of a deal. I will of course be up.
I seriously get so giddy watching them live with the little TV screens and the flashing cameras and !!!!!!! By the way, who is Sid Ganis' co-announcer this year? Has it even been revealed yet?
I can't decide if I would want Salma Hayek back to do it or not now that Penelope Cruz is assured a nomination. We all know how she reacted when Penelope got nominated for Volver. It was really unprofessional yet kind of awesome at the same time.

I also like Sigourney Weaver because of her "WTF?" reaction during the 2004 announcements where they had a lot of caffeinated press people yelling and cheering at every nominee announced (Shohreh Aghdashloo... WOOOH!!! OOWWW! YEAHHHH!!!!).

Like clockwork, every year we have to figure out time zones for the annoucements.

well, this quarter I usually wake up around 6:40am, so I guess I could get up an hour earlier.

I'd be up all night watching it. After that, then I'll go to bed.

I probably will, although the way this year is playing out, it'll put me right back to sleep.

No. I'll just get up at around 6:30 and have a look at all the nominees at once, as I have done in each of the last three years.

PST is -0800 GMT. We're in CET that +0100 GMT. 9 hours difference. So 5:38+9=14:38 or 2:38 PM.

I'll already be up at 8:30am. In fact, I have to leave for class *right* after the nominations are announced. It will be tight and I may get to campus late.

I hate getting out of bed before 7:30, but for the Oscars? Certainly.

Re: Who's waking up early for the announcements? (2009)
If it were next week I'd be up because I'd be used to my schedule at that point, but not this week. I need the extra hour. I'll just look at the Oscar website later on in the day when I have a couple of hours to kill and I'll find out then. That and this year's nominee's don't really interest me that much outside of TDK and Wall-E. I've yet to see one of the serious contenders outside of those two.

If I were in New York, at what time would they be broadcasted?

Can someone please explain why we get the same time zone questions every single year?
Bizarre!
