 Re: BAFTA nominations
Happy-Go-Lucky should have at least got a nomination with Sally Hawkins. I was thinking it may get a nomination in Best British Film.
Not so great for TDK apart from tech awards and supporting actor.
I like that Dev Patel and Kate Winslet both made it into the Leading Actor/Actress category.
Slumdog will sweep the boards.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
Of the big five, TDK is the one that gets the shaft. Considering the British director and huge tech support, that stings.
Though Milk got some nasty snubs in Director and S. Actor as well, though it is the most American of the four, so...
Considering the Director nomination and massive tech nominations, the Changeling snub in Picture is kinda surprising. Not that it matters much, though it should only solidify Jolie, an actress people STILL seem to doubt. Burn After Reading and In Bruges also followed up on their massive appearances on the long lists, making Pitt a double nominee, and getting both into O. Screenplay. Impressive. That actually also makes BAR and Milk the only two WGA nominees to make it in here. What a bizarre category for them this year.
Speaking of Actress, Hathaway AND Hawkins are snubbed. I think that near-kills Hathaway's chances at a win (The film just seems to lack industry support), and Hawkins' chances at a nomination. If the British aren't even willing to nominate her, will the Americans?
WALL-E doesn't do much damage here.
Film to benefit the most? Slumdog, easily. TWO acting nominations, and tech nominations up the wazoo.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
No BP/BD for TDK, and no BD for Milk.
Big showing by Slumdog, including two acting noms, as well Production Design and Sound. Look increasingly likely that it will get at least one sound nom at Oscar.
Interesting to see Adams but no Davis for supporting actress.
No original screenplay for Wall-E.
Frost/Nixon solidifies its position.
The top 5 ranking still looks like:
1. Slumdog Millionaire 2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3. Milk 4. Frost/Nixon 5. The Dark Knight

 Re: BAFTA nominations
Frankly, I'd put Frost/Nixon ahead of Milk ATM. I think it's 97% locked anyway, but I do wonder if the film really does have the passion needed. If ANY of those strong four falter, Milk just seems to fit the bill best for missing.
Though I still think all four make it in, with TDK being replaced by WALL-E.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
I'm shocked that The Dark Knight didn't get a Best Picture nom, especially with Nolan directing it. Not only that, but it missedBD and Best Adapted Screenplay as well...YET got NINE noms! Kinda ridiculous. Also, did Mike Leigh rape some BAFTA members or something? How the hell is it possible that one of the most acclaimed Beritish films of the year has ZERO mentions at the BAFTA?! Not for Hawkins, not for Marsan, not for Leigh...WTF? That's the most surprising thing about the BAFTAs this year actually - the complete snub of Happy-Go-Lucky. I KNEW Changeling would appear somewhere big. I'm surprised it didn't replace Milk for Picture, though, vonsidering its overall strength. Hell, it would not shock me if Jolie won for it, assuming Winslet's votes will split. Slumdog is a monster and shoulöd sweep across the board. The Reader got Actress/Picture/Director/Screenplay noms, yet only five overall. Weird. I'm glad that Mamma Mia! actually did not get any significant noms. Burn After Reading got two acting noms! The best performance (Malkovich) was snubbed, though.

These are weird and unsatisfying. Like, Tilda Swinton in Burn After Reading? Yeah, that's a great choice if you haven't seen the movie.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
This solidifies TDK as the weakest of the mighty 5. Other 4 are locked in.
I don't know why I didn't consider The Reader as their Brit choice... for some reason I thought In Bruges was the only one (sans HGL which missed long-list).
The Reader in general has been a stronger player than the RT score and controversy made me believe. If it was handled better and maybe had more time to clean up and polish, it could've been a bigger player for sure

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Frost/Nixon. Milk. The Reader. Slumdog Millionaire.
This will be the Oscar BP line-up as well.

That's one hot category. It would be so, so cool if Persepolis could win here, though I worry that it and Waltz w/Bashir will split votes in their respective categories. Either way, WALL-E is probably a near-lock to win.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
they're awesome for including Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading... but not so awesome for nominating not just Dev Patel, but also that girl (at least, that's who I'm guessing it is), from Slumdog. Not bad picks.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
Some of these are just dreadful. Dev Patel and Freida Pinto?????? Amy Adams in and no Viola Davis???? No Sally Hawkins, Eddie Marsan or The Dark Knight as Best Picture???? And Clint Eastwood for Best Director for Changeling. Shiiitttt, the BAFTA have gone insane indeed.
