 Re: Your Picks
Even if it was eligible, I very highly doubt the Cinematography branch would nominate an animated film.
I need to work on my predictions. At this point I'm thinking at least this for Picture:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Doubt Milk Miracle at St. Anna's The Road (Very random, but this category needs some nihilism that the Academy has been liking)

I don't know much about RGM either but I figure they're going to pick a comedy, and it has a noteable director and actress, unlike Happy Go Lucky

Not sure how much weight that has when his nominated films are Vera Drake, Topsy Turvey, and Secret and Lies, but alright. I have the Other Man in there as the token brit pick, though.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Australia, Revolutionary Road, Frost/Nixon, The Changeling, Milk, Happy Go Lucky... You're not comparing those films chances to Quantum of Solace and Iron Man are you? (And I know you're referring to WALL-E and TDK, but don't discount the other films over your bias) No, Loyal, I'm not. I just think that it's quite a coincidence that you're likely looking forward very mnuch to all five films in your Top 5. You are a Lurhman fan, think Bejamin Button looks great, WALL-E fanatic and a TDK fan and likely soon orgasming over Winslet and DiCaprio in RR. So, yeahg, I refer to the entire Top 5 No. I'm not comparing it to Munk's list because he simply stated it's a wish list. Yours is a subconscious wish list.

I found the score to be amazing (the Greenwood There Will Be Blood-esque fever pitch!!!) Yeah, the score thing is a shame. Though I have to listen to it again, because I really didn't feel that Greenwood-effect as most did. I just thought they took a lot from BB but made it a bit more epic and chaotic to fit with the theme of the film. C'mon, the moment when the convoy starts, as the helicopter passes overhead, and the music slowly dampens? I got goosebumps when that happened.

How can you have The Dark Knight for adapted screenplay but not picture? Not an accusation, just a question.

Btw loyal, Van Houten isn't even in Body of Lies. Not that she'd have any chance if she was considering the movie's reception and b.o. performance.

It's not even close in quality to The Lives of Others or Downfall. That stinks. I saw the trailer and was really impressed by it, along with its cast. So was I. The trailer looked aces, but the movie is really like a Best-Of of the RAF. It just counts down oin a checklist and those who know a little bit about RAF won't find a lot new there. It's not bad, more like C+/B- quality. Some performances are good, others average. Never boring, but the main problem is that unlike the movies I have mentioned in never goes nto some depth, but stays on the surface and just recounts what happened during that time period. A decent history lesson, but nothing more.

Heh, I agree (though plenty of people here will probably disagree). Baader-Meinhof really really tries to imitate Downfall's success...yet it fails.

Re: Your Best Guess At The Oscar Ballot
Finally finished mine. Not too confident in the techs, but whatever. I'm still a bit lost on what to do with Doubt. I didn't like the trailer, but there's just too many categories where it's an obvious choice for a nom. I have it getting Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Costumes, Cinematography, Art Direction, and Score... that has to be enough for a nomination. Director and Editing, which I left off, would give it 11 in that case. I don't want this year's BP to be Doubt. Best Picture The Dark Knight Frost/Nixon Gran Torino The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Doubt Best Director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino) Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) Best Actor Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) Sean Penn (Milk) Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino) Best Actress Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) Kate Winslet (The Reader) Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) Kristin Scott-Thomas (I've Loved You For So Long) Meryl Streep (Doubt) Best Supporting Actor Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) Robert Downey, Jr. (The Soloist) Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt) Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky) Best Supporting Actress Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) Debra Winger (Rachel Getting Married) Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) Viola Davis (Doubt) Geraldine Hughes (Gran Torino) Best Original Screenplay Happy-Go-Lucky Gran Torino Vicky Cristina Barcelona WALL-E Rachel Getting Married Best Adapted Screenplay The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Frost/Nixon Slumdog Millionaire Doubt Best Editing The Dark Knight The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon The Wrestler Gran Torino Best Cinematography The Dark Knight The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Australia The Wrestler Doubt Best Costume Design Australia The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Duchess Doubt The Changeling Best Art Direction Doubt The Duchess The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Hellboy II: The Golden Army Best Make Up The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Reader Hellboy II: The Golden Army Best Original Score WALL-E Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Revolutionary Road Frost/Nixon Doubt Best Original Song WALL-E The Wrestler The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Hamlet 2 Cadillac Records Best Sound Editing The Dark Knight The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Iron Man WALL-E Best Sound Mixing Frost/Nixon The Dark Knight The Soloist Iron Man WALL-E Best Visual Effects The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Iron Man The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Best Animated Feature Kung-Fu Panda WALL-E Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who Best Documentary Bigger Stronger Faster Encounters at the End of the World Man on Wire Religulous Standard Operating Procedure Best Foreign Language Film dunno Total: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 10 The Dark Knight - 9 Doubt - 9 Frost/Nixon - 8 Gran Torino - 6 The Wrestler - 6 Wall-E - 6 Australia - 4 Rachel Getting Married - 3 Narnia - 3 Iron Man - 3 Happy-Go-Lucky - 3 The Reader - 2 The Soloist - 2 Vicky Cristina Barcelona - 2 The Duchess - 2 Hellboy II - 2 Indiana Jones - 2 Kung-Fu Panda - 1 Milk - 1 I've Loved You For So Long - 1 Horton Hears a Who - 1 Bigger Stronger Faster - 1 Encounters at the End of the World - 1 Man on Wire - 1 Religulous - 1 Standard Operating Procedure - 1 Hamlet 2 - 1 Cadillac Records - 1 Changeling - 1 Revolutionary Road - 1 Slumdog Millionaire - 1
