Only two for Atonement? That's shocking.

 Re: BAFTA Winners
Hm, similar to The Queen winning only Picture and Actress last year, only not as strong.
Ronan is now the only S. Actress nominee without any awards. So, could the Oscars still follow the route of the 2000 race and award her? Something to ponder.

That would be crazy, but this has been a crazy year, so it's not out of the question.

 Re: BAFTA Winners
Well Atonement won due to the British connection so that means little for its Oscar chances. Though Ronan has a fighting chance at Supporting Actress Oscar.

 Re: BAFTA Winners
Swinton is a real possiblity by now for the Oscar. I'd put her above Blanchett actually.
Good for Cotillard, well-deserved too!

 Re: BAFTA Winners
So I think this race is becoming slightly more interesting.... Picture, Director and Actor are all locked, but Actress is a three way race with one in front (Christie), and Supporting can go to anyone but Ronan (I'm still predicting Swinton)

So I was just watching this on BBC America and I didn't know Rosamund Pike and Joe Wright are a couple.
Loved both Tilda and Marion's reactions to their wins.

How does this win over something like Blanchett as Dylan?

Her interview and all her preparation was also really good. You didn't notice she was acting because she seemed so real.

I thought Swinton was quite terrific in portraying her character and adding layers to an otherwise shallow role.

I thought Swinton was quite terrific in portraying her character and adding layers to an otherwise shallow role. really, that's just like arguing that Clooney did a ton in his role. Face it, if he wasn't such a charming guy with such a likable personality, neither he nor his movies would get the attention they do. I'd call him the Will Smith of the Oscars. I thought the only really great performance in Michael Clayton belonged to Tom Wilkinson, who at least invented a character and ran very far with it. I mean, was Clooney doing anything other than playing Danny Ocean when he isn't robbing casinos? Regardless, I suppose upon looking back, this year did not have a large number of fantastic supporting female performances, and Swinton was solid, and Michael Clayton was a great film, so I guess there's no harm there, even though I would attribute its greatness more to its script, direction, and Wilkinson than to her performance. Clooney was at least carrying the film along even if he wasn't "doing much." I thought either Vanessa Redgrave or Ramola Garai from Atonement would've deserved it more, though.

 Re: BAFTA Winners
Swinton was terrific. Perhaps not as good as Blanchett, but definitely one of the more deserving of the nominees.
