Last minute thoughts for director:
* Martin Scorcese and Clint Eastwood are obviously in. Alexander Payne is also a lock due to the LAFCA win for best director. But I think both Marc Forster and Taylor Hackford misses out. Even if one of them gets in, it will be Hackford not Forster.
* Zhang Yimou was in my predictions, but I am taking him out now simply because the foreign film race will become messed up as House of Flying Daggers now must win over The Sea Inside (which I think is impossible).
* We are underestimating Focus's Oscar power. They have gotten a best picture nod every year since they were USA Films back in 2000. Last year, when Cold Mountain missed out, Miramax still got a best director nod for City of God. So a Focus director gets the fifth slot, whether it's Michel Gondry for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Walter Salles for The Motorcycle Diaries. Whichever film it is, expect a high tech nom tally as well.
* For the other slot, I think Michael Moore gets in. His nom will line up with corresponding picture, editing, and possibly screenplay and score nods.
Let's see how off I am...

There's no secret I'm expecting Moore to get 3 nominations for F 9/11 (pic, director, editing).
