Could Million Dollar Baby be undernominated?
Those that have seen it love it, but very few have seen it. The movie won't even been seen by most people until after the nominations are announced. I would say that more people have seen Eternal Sunshine, Sideways, or Finding Neverland than those that have seen Million Dollar Baby, which is surprisng for such an Oscar-calibre movie. The BAFTA screener fiasco and its late filing for best score is telling us that WB is doing an awful job campaigning for the film.
Don't be surprised if this movie gets only 5 or less nominations.

I think more than enough Academy members have seen it to nominate it for Best Picture, no doubts about that.
I can't believe it's inelligible for Score, that's just bullshit on both parts, how could you be late to turn in the score, come on!
And these Academy rules are really pissing me off, it's coming to be the awards show that rewards films and studios that can follow directions moreso than the best of the year (though it was never really about "the best" of the year).
I do agree that it will be one of those mediocre-nominated films, but one of those that will have the best nod-win ratios... like Traffic or something.
I see it nominated for...
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actress
Best Adapted Screenplay
and it should get maybe 1 or 2 tech nods like Editing or Art Direction to round out 7 nominations.

You mean Supporting Actor, right?
It has also a shot at cinematography maybe...

Unless the Academy disqualifies it there because there were similar shots used in Mystic River...

I can't wait to see this film. I was just watching Ebert and Roeper, and the both gushed about it. At the very end of the show, Ebert said he has gotten hundreds of e-mails from across the country asking when it would be playing at their local theater, and it said it should be getting a wide release about now, and Roeper replied "good, I can't wait for people to see how good this movie really is."
You just don't hear gushing like this over a movie. I haven't heard any of the other academy movies getting those kinds of things said about it. It's too bad that it's probably Marty's turn to win. #-o

You do realize that you've used the word gush over 200 times within the past 3 weeks, don't you?

I hate it when critics or the media builds up these kinds of movies. IT just leaves alot of room for diappointment because not everyone can appreciate the subtleness and the amazing genius behind a script and acting like this. IT truly is a gem but don't get so worked up over it because in my opinion it's the kind of film that really grows on you over time. You may love it at first sight but over the next few weeks you start to realize and appreciate just how good it is.

Well...yeah. They shouldn't build it up so much, but it *is* an amazing film.

Yeah, I always have to control my urge to become super hyped for these types of movies. To an extent it made me be dissapointed for The Aviator, and though Sideways was just as great as I thought it'd be (but funnier!) I'm worried that I'm going to be thinking this will be something to the level of The Shawshank Redemption, which is ridiculous to expect.

Back to the topic of Million Dollar Baby...
I think it's a lock for at least 5 nominations. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay are pretty much locks.
