I'm going to discredit awards that nominate Kate Bosworth for her mediocre turn in Superman Returns.

I think the inclusion of 10.5: Apocolypse is exponentially more baffling. Because, seriously?

Saturns only honor scifi/horror related things, right?

I think they're more 'genre' films in general. So no simple dramas or comedies, it's sci-fi, horror, fantasy, adventure, stuff like that.

These nominations always boggle my mind, though. Kate Bosworth? Kelsey Grammar? James Marsden? Not exactly award-worthy performances here. As much as I like to see genre films be rewarded, these awards have become a bit of a joke and thus further the prejudice against these films.

Here are my own personal choices, not necessarily who I think will win (but mostly who I think should):

BEST SCIENCE FICTION FILM

Children of Men (Universal)
[haven't seen it, but hear it's really good]

BEST FANTASY FILM

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Buena Vista)
[duh... it's me...]

BEST HORROR FILM

Saw III (Lionsgate)
[don't watch horror films, so going with the one that seems most popular]

BEST ACTION/ADVENTURE/THRILLER FILM

Casino Royale (Sony / MGM)
[my first ever Bond film, and it ROCKED!]

BEST ANIMATED FILM

Monster House (Sony)
[I liked Cars, but this one was a wonderfully awesome surprise]

BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM

Pan’s Labyrinth (Picturehouse)
[haven't seen any of these, so going with the one that seems popular]

BEST ACTOR

Daniel Craig (Casino Royale) (Sony / MGM)
Will Farrell (Stranger Than Fiction) (Sony)
[haven't seen any of the other movies, and it's a tie between the above two for me]

BEST ACTRESS

Judy Dench (Notes on a Scandal) (Fox Searchlight)
[just 'cause I love Judi Dench! lol]

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) (Buena Vista)
[yeah, I'm biased ;)]

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Emma Thompson (Stranger Than Fiction) (Sony)
[Emma rocks!]

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A YOUNGER ACTOR

Mitchel Tate Musso (Monster House) (Sony)
[this is the only movie I've seen in this category; loved the movie and the acting]

BEST DIRECTION

Tom Tykwer (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer) (DreamWorks / Paramount)
[only 'cause I haven't seen any of them, and Alan Rickman's in this one]

BEST WRITING

Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) (Sony)
Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Paul Haggis (Casino Royale) (Sony / MGM)
[again, the only two I've seen, and I loved them both]

BEST MUSIC

David Arnold (Casino Royale) (Sony / MGM)
[I liked the way they didn't use the main theme music 'til the very end; very effective use of the music]

BEST COSTUME

Penny Rose (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) (Buena Vista)
[yup, more bias, lol]

BEST MAKE-UP

Ve Neill, Joel Harlow - (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) (Buena Vista)
[Bootstrap Bill was a really good makeup job!]

BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS

John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson, Allen Hall - (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) (Buena Vista)
[well, duh... kind of a given, even for those people who didn't like it]

TELEVISION CATEGORIES

BEST NETWORK TELEVISION SERIES

Jericho (CBS)
[the only one I watch weekly, so...]

BEST SYNDICATED / CABLE TELEVISION SERIES

Stargate SG-1 (Sci Fi Channel)
[I like both Stargates, but I'd go more for Atlantis than SG-1 nowadays]

BEST PRESENTATION ON TELEVISION

The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines (TNT)
[the only one I saw just parts of, so, yeah...]

BEST ACTOR IN A TELEVISION PROGRAM OR SERIES

Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) (Sci Fi Channel)
[don't watch BSG, nor any of the others, but Edward rocks!]

BEST ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION PROGRAM OR SERIES

Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer) (CBS)
[I'd never seen the show 'til this season, and it's so great!]

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A TELEVISION PROGRAM OR SERIES

Michael Emerson (Lost) (ABC)
[no clue, so going with who I'm vaguely familiar with]

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION PROGRAM OR SERIES

Hayden Panettiere (Heroes) (NBC/Universal)
[she's a great young actress!]

DVD – HOME ENTERTAINMENT

BEST DVD RELEASE

Beowulf & Grendel (Anchor Bay)
[haven't seen any of them, but gotta go with my favorite story from Brit Lit and the hunky Gerard Butler]

BEST DVD SPECIAL EDITION RELEASE

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (Extended Edition) (Buena Vista)
[only movie of them I've seen, and I hear the extras are awesome]

BEST DVD CLASSIC FILM RELEASE

A Nightmare on Elm Street (New Line)
[no clue, so going with Johnny Depp; can never go wrong with him!]

BEST DVD COLLECTION

James Bond Ultimate Edition (Collections 1 – 4) (MGM)
[haven't seen any of them, but already prefer Bond over Superman, even just after seeing one Bond movie (which isn't even on there, lol)]

BEST TELEVISION SERIES RELEASE ON DVD

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection (V. 9 – 10) (Rhino)
[MST3K ROCKS!!!]

BEST RETRO TELEVISION SERIES RELEASE ON DVD

The Wild Wild West (The Complete First Season) (Paramount)
[this was one of the best TV DVD sets I've gotten, extras-wise; plus it's just an awesome, awesome, awesome show!]
