No surprises here. Though their Jonathan Dayton/Valerie Faris nomination further cements as a lock (rather than another Being John Malkovich/Almost Famous) and their shot at a directorial Oscar nod is very realistic as well.

The noms for Collette and Directing further confirm that LMS has a very crazy cult leading the way to that Oscar nom. I wonder if it could even make Director there.
Lovin' the noms for Craig, Happy Feet in score and Blunt (Please get that Oscar nom!).

With no acting noms for Babel, it just goes to who you how much of a sheep all critics are. Half of these bozos probably haven't even seen Babel, but they vote for it anyway, because others did. What a joke.

You can't tell me that Barraza and Kikuchi were not great in Babel. I will accept not wanting a nod for Pitt, who was average but still good, but those two women were amazing. It still received 7 nominations with no acting, that's pretty damn good.

I'll agree with you in one thing: How can they nominate Babel if the don't nominate the actors also? Not cool.

Why would The Queen win Best Film, but not Best British Film?

Spreading the wealth, though I guess the same could be said for giving The Queen Best British Film. Still, I think The Queen has enough momentum to win Best Film. We'll see, I guess.
