Post 'Basic Instinct 2,' 'Little Man' top Razzie noms
Both films receive seven nods among 11 categories.
By Lee Margulies
January 22, 2007

'Tis the accolade season in Movieland, but where is the recognition for all the work that didn't make critics' top 10 lists for 2006 — or even their top 50 lists?

Enter the 27th annual Razzie Awards. Today, nominees for the worst films and performances of the year are announced, led by "Basic Instinct 2" and "Little Man," with seven nods among the 11 categories. "BloodRayne" was a runner-up with six citations. All three were nominated for worst picture, along with "Lady in the Water" and "The Wicker Man."

Three Oscar winners are in the running for Razzies: Nicolas Cage as worst actor for "The Wicker Man," Ben Kingsley as worst supporting actor for "BloodRayne" and Ron Howard as worst director for "The Da Vinci Code."

The tongue-in-cheek Razzies are handed out annually by the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, with nominations and winners chosen by hundreds of film professionals, journalists and fans. Winners will be announced Feb. 24 at the Ivar Theatre in Hollywood.

Full nominations will be announced tomorrow.

Honestly, I didn't think The Da Vinci Code was terrible, but if definitely could've used a more competent and visionary director at the helm than Howard. And The Wicker Man is deserving of every nomination it got. And I hoep Ultraviolet and Eragon show up!

Hmm, not bad. I didn't like any of the Best Picture nominees, but Basic Instinct II is more tolerable than the rest, which all suck hard.

Any chance of a Babel nomination?

the razzies are to predicable to be interesting. they have no idea what a truly bad movie is, they just go by a few jokes in rolling stone and slant magazine.

Thank goodness The Wicker Man got a Worst Picture nomination. I would worry about their sanity if it didn't.

BI2 is an extremely watchable campy sequel to a great movie. But of course they hate Sharon.

And Lady in the Water is soo underrated...

There is a movie god. Little Man is recognized as one of the worst. Now, if only they can find a way to get Babel in there.

damn they let Stallone and Cruise off the hook this year despite Cruise acting more obnoxious last year than the year before. I guess Nicholas Cage is taking that award. Its probably a good thing they stayed away from avoid easy tabloid targets like Gibson

Sorry, they were all Cruised out last year When they nommed him for WOTW (A nom entirely to spite him, admit it) and created an entire category to award him in (Most Tiresome Tabloid Targets). I haven't seen M:I-3, but I know another nom for him would've been for the man, not the performance.

At least they didn't nominate stallone for anything this year. they seem to be super harsh to him year after year. yes, some of his performances and movies were definitely razzie-worthy, but most years they seem to crap on him just for the hell of it.

I don't understand the lack of Date Movie. It was ripe with multiple acting noms. What about The Lake House? Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock for Worst Couple? Serious snubbing.

The entire cast in Night at the Museum deserves noms. Stiller, Wilson, Williams, Coogan, Van Dyke, Rooney, Rudd, Raver. It's a big-budget disaster.

Date Movie deserved something for how bad it is, but perhaps Epic Movie flopping would be even more satisfying to moviegoers (poor Kal Penn)...

With the inclusion of great movies like Basic Instinct 2, Lady in the Water & DaVinci Code, the Razzies have officially jumped the shark.

I nominate the Razzies for a Razzie...
