Now if only the DGA nominated United 93...
I think wins for Departed and Dreamgirls look good here. And with Bond being back in and the branch's past noms for action flicks like Speed, The Matrix and Die Hard, CR is certainly a big contender for Oscar. I'm thinking:
Babel
Casino Royale
The Departed
Dreamgirls
United 93

They separate editing into Drama and Comedy/Musical? I find that weird. Editing is not a technical art that I see as being distinctly different for comedies versus dramas (unlike costume, where it feels logical to have separate categories for contemporary and period, etc).
In any event, no real surprises. United 93 is getting a late little surge with WGA and Eddie noms now. If it had gotten DGA too, it might have been in a pretty good position.
Peace,
Mike.

Babel for best editing.......Yeeesh. That movie had terrible flow and droned on for far too long in certain scenes.....cough..Mexico..cough.

WGA, CDG, ACE...three. With the three GG noms and mentions on both NBR/AFI top 10 lists (One of four films to do so), it's been quietly dominant this season.

All the usual suspects, and no Letters/Flags or other late releases again.

Guild nomination tallies thus far are below. Really, the top 5 are so unbelievably locked for Best Picture. The top 5 are clearly distinctly the biggest winners from all other films, I find it hard to believe that any other film could penetrate the Best Picture category at the Oscars.

Actually some really good nominations.
I know it's not the case for a lot of people, but as lengthy as they were, I didn't think either Casino or Pirates dragged once. So... go editors.
